TR: Here and there
Been going on some fun rides lately. Ones most normal people probably wouldn't wanna go on, but I managed to round up some savages for these adventures. There is nothing I would rather be doing with my life these days, these are good times.
It's anybodies guess how much longer any of us will be able to ride our bikes through the mountains like 6 year olds, so enjoy.
Here are the paths, the destinations, and the people that make it happen.
Add your own captions if you like, I'm not that motivated. Maybe I'll get around to it later.

The sketchiest of my friend's bikes:

There's a person and a doggie in these if you look:

Looks awesome, as always.
Love the fact that one dude has a full face and one dude one has a bandanna...

Yeah, we have varying degrees of risk assessment.

Great pics - makes me want to get out there, way out there.
Like I told my last wife, I never drive faster than I can see, besides it's all in the reflexes.

Very nice, Mr. Capone! Looks like you motivated McHugh to get that beast of a bike up in the high country! I "settled" for some pleasant and scenic riding on the super buff Continental Divide trail off Pipestone Pass yesterday with the wife and a hardtail riding buddy and his new to mtbiking lady. Great shot of the Great One and Fairy Lake, btw.
Buy the ticket...take the ride.

cool trails. you've gotten me curious about the alpine riding up there.
i always feel like i don't need my full-face unless i'm wearing it. i go crazy when my CPU is packaged safely, and i just roll casual on rides where i want fresh air instead.o--/\

Good bump. There's a couple spots in those that I still can't identify.
We heard you in our twilight caves, one hundred fathom deep below, for notes of joy can pierce the waves, that drown each sound of war and woe.

Yeah, the most unique and amazing trail in that bunch got illegally closed by a newly arrived private land owner that got upset when someone shot one of "their" elk on public land accessed by an easment across their property. The easment across the property dates back to the railroad days and the Forest Service is allegedly "upset" about the closure, but hasn't done anything about it in the three years since they erected the giant fence. Pretty cool that those same property owners get to run "their" cattle up that trail all summer while shutting the public out of a huge swath of public land in those mountains. Just what the doctor ordered I tell ya, just what we need around here, more access locked up by shitheads. That was one trail you could really get away from the crowds on the weekend and only about an hour away.
To add insult to injury, one aquaintance of mine kissed their ass enough that he gets to go hunting up there, but they are totally against allowing anyone else, hikers or bikers, to go up there on this major estabished Forest Service trail with a fully developed Forest Service cabin at the trailhead. Pretty fucking awesome huh.
Sorry for the rant, life is good otherwise. Got to do a 5500' ride with my buddy hick the other day, a half hour from town, perfect weather, narrow techy (sketchy) singletrack for many miles, no people. I will say, the initial 4100' carry a bike up an unrelenting steep rocky trail probly keeps the riff raff out so it will never be an "official" mountain bike ride. If that doesn't grind you down, the final push to the last downhill will surely have you stumbling around with your bike and mumbling to yourself, unless you're superhuman like hick.

All my other buddies HATE that ride, so I was super stoked to have hick to do it with since he is all about executing that brand of absurdity. Thanks again dude, hope to do that one again before the snow flies.Last edited by tone capone; 07-21-2012 at 02:47 PM.

Lucky for sure. I try not to take it for granted and I try to be as respectful as possible in sharing the images of these places on the interwebz. I just want to meet like minded people and do fun stuff so hit me up if you're around.

Awesome awesome shots. Are some of those first few from yellow mule, or further south? Never ridden it before but might give it a shot tomorrow. Do you know, does one need a high clearance vehicle to get to the Buck Ridge trail head?
