My bad, I agree with you on most of what you're saying and should've done a better job reading through all the posts to see that you were arguing against someone else saying the government has the right to force Beck off the air. I don't think the government should silence Beck, but as he is on the TV it's not as black and white. Whether they legitimately can is well beyond my knowledge (for example, the FCC fines people all the time for saying certain things which definitely is a form of censorship).

And I wasn't really referring to you in particular as a rightie--it was my lame attempt at humor. Sorry.

Let's be clear here about who's doing the silencing. No one has a duty to put Glenn Beck on TV, radio, or anywhere else. However, it seems like you (and Triage) are saying that the government has a legitimate reason to force Beck off the air...and that's wrong.
Hey D00d. I said Beck's speech was protected so what's the problem?

Sure it does. Just like it guarantees that a person slandered or defamed can sue your ass for making the comments in question.

A clown with tons and tons and tons of viewers:

    Big-Beck-goes-over-3-million-viewers-beats-OReilly-in-demo-cable-news-ratings-for-wednesday-august-26-2009

Though a little scandal might alienate advertisers, it’s pure ratings gold. Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to O’Reilly for the night. But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than O’Reilly (888K to 876K). I don’t watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still…wow. Even though Beck airs before primetime when fewer people are watching TV, he had the most 25-54 viewers in the cable news world for the night.

    I watched him Wednesday

.I was interested in his background on the people President Obama is surrounding himself with.

The background on the 32 Czars? SACARY SHIT from where I sit.

People should pay attention, the best and brightest are not influencing the direction of our country.

However Glen Beck seemed stressed and defensive to me. It was kind of painful to watch. The negative attention he is getting seems to be having an effect on him.

Yeah, at the time, I owned the bike shop, and a customer owned a high end-competition install place, we did a bunch of trades for cost. I think that rig had one 12" soundstream pro (3" of throw) in a MASSIVE box, along with two 10" in another box, powered by three amps. (we had the whole thing plugged into 110v for stability)
It was a one day only install, but it was BOMBIN'.

As Sponsors Flee, The Glenn Beck Show Gets More And More Awesomely Bonkers

    First Posted: 08-28-09 12:20 PM | Updated: 08-28-09 01:20 PM

I don't have any idea if the ongoing flight of sponsors from the Glenn Beck Show is having any effect on its bottom line, but it sure isn't tempering its content! Yesterday's Glenn Beck show was MAGICAL. I really hope you watched it, and I really hope you watched it in the same way I did: yelling across the room repeatedly at an intern, "What's he saying now? That stuff sounds BONKERS! Is it burning your retinae to look at it? Do you need a hug?" Here's what you missed:

    HILARIOUS ILLITERACY

Glenn Beck took to his whiteboard to demonstrate how various words revealed a disturbing hidden secret about the Obama administration. It sort of went something like this: Gimme an "Obama!" Gimme a "left!" Gimme the word, "international!" Gimme some "graft!" Here's the reference to "ACORN" that I am contractually obligated to mention once a show! Gimme a "revolutionaries!" Followed by "hidden agendas!" And now, give me a "Y," because surely, the world is staring at Glenn Beck and asking themselves, "Why? Dear God in Heaven, why?" What do you get when you take the first letters of those words and spin them through your Little Orphan Annie decoder rings? "OLIGARHY!" This is NOT A WORD, in any language on the planet Earth.

The Washington Independent\\\'s Dave Weigel captured this moment for you, praise his name:

    DIRE WARNINGS

OMGZ! Have you heard that Obama is fashioning himself a private Army, made up of Americorps volunteers? It's true! And who hasn't gazed upon the average gaggle of Americorps volunteers, fresh and clueless from college, and thought to themselves: "From this raw material, I could surely fashion a brutal cadre of fearsome shock troops that will finally bring Western civilization to its knees!" The mere prospect of such a thing happening led Beck to compare President Obama to Saddam Hussein, underscoring the way Hussein attempted to tyrannically "adopt" all of Kuwait's highways.

First, Americorps came for the seniors, and I SAID NOTHING, because it turns out Americorps was just bringing them food, listening to them tell stories about their childhoods, and promising to visit them and stuff.

    BECK GETS EMO

Nothing really beats Glenn Beck when he goes on a full-tilt victimization binge. Here's how he ended his show, or so our intern tells me:

BECK: I'm tired of being a sheep. I'm tired of being a victim. I'm tired of being pushed around. You know what? The gloves come off.

I have no idea who is pushing Glenn Beck around! He gets his very own television show and radio show and book deals and he gets to say whatever in the world he feels like saying and people give him millions and millions of dollars for it. He can have, if he wants, his very own pony at his gigantic and secluded manse to ride on whenever he wants and can hire someone to bake him delicious funnel cakes any time he likes! These are the hard won perks of being a celebrity, earned from having a dedicated fan base.

Nevertheless, today, the gloves come off! A preview: the hands underneath those gloves will be free of callouses and as soft as an infant's tush!
The "discussion", if it can be called that, in this second YouTube above is S C A R E Y ! ! ! They are saying Obama is creating (AmeriCorps) shock troops loyal to him instead of the country, "just like Hitler and Saddam". SRSLY, watch it!!!

    Of course a defender of Beck's lies would lie just the same;

    Radical ‘Birther’ Kreep Launches DefendGlenn.Com

After Fox News star Glenn Beck accused President Obama of being a “racist” with a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” a drive by Color Of Change has convinced 46 companies to cancel their advertisements on his show. In response, Beck and FoxNews have launched increasingly vicious attacks on White House official Van Jones, who co-founded Color Of Change in 2005 following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Now radical right-winger Gary Kreep, head of the United States Justice Foundation, is leaping to Beck’s assistance. He has established DefendGlenn.com, not to justify Beck’s indefensible hate speech, but to spread smears about Color Of Change and Van Jones. On the website, Kreep instructs Glenn Beck fans to tell advertisers that Van Jones “went to prison for inciting the 1992 Rodney King riots in L.A.”:

Tell them CoC’s founder went to prison for inciting the 1992 L.A. Riots, and accused President Bush of giving troops orders to shoot black people after Hurricane Katrina.

In reality, Van Jones was a legal observer in San Francisco, not Los Angeles, during a non-violent rally that took place after, not before the riots. Jones and hundreds of others were seized in a mass arrest. He was released within a few hours, all charges were dropped, and “the City of San Francisco ultimately compensated him financially for his unjust arrest.”

Jones also has never “accused President Bush of giving troops orders to shoot black people after Hurricane Katrina,” as the DefendGlenn site claims. Kreep’s inflammatory lie has no factual basis whatsoever.

Kreep’s unhinged attacks come as no surprise, however. He is one of the leaders of the “birther” movement, claiming that President Obama is not a citizen of the United States.

    Thought I'd keep the total/list on topic of Glenn's advertiser pull-outs current. Also, this list of those companies who ARE advertising on Glenn Beck's show was interesting;

List of Advertisers Who Have Dropped Glenn Beck Balloons to 46
Submitted by jmeasley on Thu, 08/27/2009 - 23:13.

Ten more companies have joined the Color of Change boycott against Glenn Beck’s Fox News program. The additions to the list include Applebee’s, DirecTV, Travelers Insurance, Kraft, and Vonage. This now brings the total number of advertisers who have dropped Beck to 46 since he called President Obama a racist.

James Rucker, Executive Director of ColorOfChange.org, said, “All 46 companies that have distanced themselves from Glenn Beck should be applauded for their stance. We are still reaching out to companies whose ads we see during Beck’s nightly program,” Rucker continued. “Based on the fact that many of the recent ads on Beck’s program are for gold coins and News Corp properties, it looks like Fox News Channel is struggling to place advertisements on Beck’s show.”

A quick look at the recent advertisers on Beck’s show illustrates Mr. Rucker’s point. According to Media Matters, here is the list of advertisers on Beck’s show for August 27, National Republican Trust PAC -- GOPTrust.com, EasyWater ,Rosland Capital, 1-800-PetMeds, Bank of America, Wall Street Journal, Lear Capital, Liberty Medical, Our Country Deserves Better PAC -- TeaPartyExpress.org, Pulaski & Middleman, Merit Financial, The Dannon Company, Inc. (Activia), Goldline International Inc., Sandals, Ad Council, Fox Fantasy Football, Binder & Binder.

Beck and FNC have gone from garnering ad revenue from the Fortune 500 to advertising that involves tea baggers and fantasy football. Judging by the above list and the push back that the network is allowing Beck and O’Reilly to do, this boycott is starting to hurt. The network still has no clue how to combat this.

What FNC and Glenn Beck should have done is very simple. They should have apologized. It didn’t even have to be a full apology. Beck could have claimed that his words have been misinterpreted. If he would have done this, advertisers would not have gotten nervous, and the boycott would not have been effective.

Beck started this whole thing with his idiotic statement about Obama being a racist, and he had the power to end it, but instead he chose to stand by his statements, and now he and Fox News are paying the price. The network tried to ignore the boycott. They tried to send Beck on vacation, but nothing has worked. With their advertisers fleeing, Beck and FNC are left with nothing but clueless bluster.

Boycott anything that is associated with FOX or Glen Beck. He gets paid to scare dim witted right-wingers into believing that Obama is really secretly planning to kill grandma, cover illegals, put conservatives in concentration camps, take away your guns, perform forced abortions, etc,...
I find it particularly troubling that FOX has gone to the crazies. They aren't even trying to hide the fact that are now a 24 hour anti-Obama network that is merely a puppet of the GOP and their disinformation campaign.
Scaring idiots into action is what they are doing. It's just a matter of time. You watch!
