Been thinking about buying a new surf film. Machado is an interesting fellow. This might be what I'm after.

meh. Seems like a look how soul am I kind of flick. But the man can surf, so the footage should be good.

At least its not another "Dogtown, Bustin down the barrel", "nobody was doing what those guys were doing" type of movie. I'm sick of watching people jerk each other off.

you'd rather watch Rob jerk himself off about how soulful he is?

Shiiit, why watch action sports porn at all? It's all jerking off in the end anyways.

You're right, I'd rather see Nature Valley Granola bar commercials inserted into my ski films.

Saw the Drifter about two weeks ago. It's the best surf movie I've seen. I liked it more than most of the TGR/MSP ski movies too. The cinamatography is outstanding. It's not a movie that's going to get you overly jacked up, and it's not packed with surfing...it's just different from most surf flicks. There is a lot of good surf footage in the extras. It's well worth the purchase.

The voiceover reminded me of Ed Norton in Fight Club. Speaking of Rob, did they ever redo "Drifting" into DVD? I still have it on VHS somewhere.
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

It does look like another soul surfing movie but I wouldn't say no to someone willing to pay for my 6 month trip in Indo. Indo barrels plus good surfing is never hard to watch.

I still haven't seen it, but it seems like people either hate it or love it.
What I've gathered is that it's kind of blurred the line between surf film and hollywood film/docu-drama.
Eitherway, I stoked to see people (especially athletes) trying new things in the action sports film world.

i saw the premier in bali...you know what...i really wasn't too impressed. Really not too much surf footage (although the little that there was, was good). He definitely tries to show how "soul" he is...but they do it all in the wrong way. It feels set up and cheesy. It doesn't get to the heart of surfers or indonesian culture...after spending 3 months there...it just kinda felt like it tried too hard.

I saw it over christmas. I didnt like it. Sick Indo footage...but very little of it. I would not suggest anyone buy it, save your money for the new JOB flick.

After seeing it "new" was not the first word that came to mind.... shitty was.
A supersized McSoul surf industry biopic that took it easy on the surf footage. Not worth the time, much less money

    I was not a fan.

It's not real, it's trying to be real in a very stilted weird way. It's not about surfing, it's about a douche and his struggles with being a douche.
There's a lot of emphasis on what a hard life it is to be a pro surfer and how much of a burden it all is. "Oh the pain of my enormous celebrity. woe is me. How can I ever escape the prison of my staggering popularity."

Uhhh. get a haircut and go someplace that's not a surf venue for a while. How about that there, tortured surf genius.

heavy on the concocted bullshit, light on the surf movie.

dam, I really had hopes for this from the trailer. Looks like my money wont be going towards the flick. Listening to pro athletes complain about their problems is really redundant and stupid. If it's so bad, come switch with me. Even your worst day as a pro athlete is certainly better than my best day.
