Silversun Pickups
...are blowing my mind.
The radio singles are not the best songs on the albums...by a long way.
Go buy everything you can get by this band. Some of the songs fit the ski movie feel... I wonder if anyones using their songs this year?Last edited by iscariot; 07-22-2009 at 08:28 PM.

Huge thumbs up, I love these guys.
it's all young and fun and skiing and then one day you login and it's relationship advice, gomer glacier tours and geezers.

They are coming to dc in 2 weeks, I'd go check them out but I'll be out of town that weekend. I'm liking the new stuff for sure.
Before big games I shoot Rabies, it gives me the edge I need and it’s undetectable. Only idiot losers do steroids anymore...

Wish it was in DC - I won't drive to the Ram's Head in Murdermore for a show that demands Bourbon consumption.

Yeah, I wasn't clear for the DC mags - DC101 is having a pool party/concert featuring them on August 1st at the capitol skyline: LINK. You have to win passes now I think, but they were for sale last week...

good band they remind me of what the Smashing Pumpkins would sounded like if Billy hadn't moved to Sucktown after Melloncolly

They've definitely got an early Pumpkins vibe. I loved the Pumpkins so I'm sure that has something to do ith me liking this band. I'm seeing them play a 2000 person venue in about 3 weeks. It'll be interesting to see how they pull off the set, the songs on the album are very produced...

Very good. Despite "Wanting" to not like them (can't explain why), they're great. Make sure you see them in a place that's good acoustically - when I saw a set by them their guitars completely drowned out the vocals.

I finally got Swoon. I must say that I wasn't stoked when I was listening to tracks at work over headphones via Myspace.
Now that I've listened to the CD while rolling around in my car, I am happy with it.

Just got back from a show at the dome in Calgary.
These guys are awesome.
On another note: Closing for the Pickups was Muse.
Don't really listen to them, don't own anything by them. The singer sounds like Thom Yorke, Rufus Wainright, Freddy Mercury, and Bruce Dickenson,...the band is like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Queen with some Pumpkins and Spinal Tap thrown in for good measure...which should be killer, but is for the most part whiny and repetitive. Drummer is okay but not fantastic (particularly after seeing the Pickups) think Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones, and the Bass player is just okay.
BUT THE LIGHT SHOW!!!!
It feels like I just spent two hours getting my eardrums scraped with rusty forks while simultaneously getting laser eye surgery...but in a good way.
At least Muse has the sense to spice up their show with mind blowing effects...I'd have been bored to tears if they hadn't.
The Pickups don't have and didn't need effects, they simply rock and used the dynamics of the music to propel the show.Last edited by iscariot; 03-31-2010 at 12:05 AM.

Just now listening to these guys. It's nice to have a new music crush.
They think I do not know a buttload of crap about the Gospel, but I do.

I've been hearing them on the radio for quite a while and keep thinking I need to check these guys out. Currently listening to their Youtube library and thinking why they aren't more popular. Now I'm going to look at buying some album(s).

Local LA band but I first saw them on Letterman. It's really shocking just how many really talented bands there are in So Cal who just can't quite get heard.

Love love the Pickups.
There is another band called Nothing that is in the same ballpark that is pretty good and have a new album coming out if you are inclined to give it a sampling.

Spotify is so cool. Just plug in a band name, and poof, all of their stuff. Like the best record store ever in the cloud.
