TR: Folger Peak, 7/13/09
Yesterday Dookey67 and I skied Folger Peak.
We treated it sort of like coffee that had been brewed too long and milked it.
Here I am skiing the first of two Folger Peak backside patches:
Lower Highland Lake is in the background.
The hike further up:
Hiram Peak's snow patches and Upper Highland Lake can be seen in the background.
I head down the second backside patch:
Dookey67 follows...
and looks for more snow after the patch runs out:
We found more on the frontside.
Dookey67:
I follow:
Dookey67 continues down:
Then we found a couple of bonus patches to ski.
Dookey67 on the first bonus patch:
I follow:
The second bonus patch was a twisting gully.

Hiking out:
Wild flowers in the foreground and Folger Peak in the background:
Even though the snow was dissappearing fast we made the most of what was left.

it was a doozy, too: 6 hour hike/ski venture. we got a late start due to Nash Bridges intervention so our hike out ended around 8:57pm. we found the car just as the darkness began to engulf us.
we didn't take any snaps, but there were a couple of uber gnarly chutes with precarious entries (i almost slipped down the hill trying to look at the entry, then again i've been hiking in 10 y/o Adidas Trailrunners with mondo well-worn soles).
props to Vets for being tour guide.

I can't explain exactly why, but that last, twisiting gulley looked pretty fun. Sweet TR!

Just a quick reply. I'm visiting Chicago now and have limited world wide intertube access.
Thanks for the kind words.
There is a lot to explore around that area. Definitely need to ski more of it earlier next year with more snow.
