"Presidents Surveillance Program"The Bush administration built an unprecedented surveillance operation to pull in mountains of information far beyond the warrantless wiretapping previously acknowledged, a team of federal inspectors general reported Friday, questioning the legal basis for the effort but shielding almost all details on grounds they're still too secret to reveal...........
Although the report documents Bush administration policies, its fallout could be a problem for the Obama administration if it inherited any or all of the still-classified operations.
.............The IG report said that President Bush signed off on both the warrantless wiretapping and other top-secret operations shortly after Sept. 11 in a single presidential authorization. All the programs were periodically reauthorized, but except for the acknowledged wiretapping, they "remain highly classified."...................................... .................
"The notion that basically one person at the Justice Department, John Yoo, and Hayden and the vice president's office were running a program around the laws that Congress passed, including a reinterpretation of the Fourth Amendment, is mind boggling," Harman said.
House Democrats are pressing for legislation that would expand congressional access to secret intelligence briefings, but the White House has threatened to veto it.

Are You really surprised ?
I don't belive all the information gathering is so much a product of the evil Bush administration, but more because tecnology just happened to explode and make these thing possible durning the past 8 years that he had been president.
It is much scarier than you think
And at some point everyone will be able to track pretty much every aspect of your life.
Your Cell phone is leaving a digital trail about not just who you call and text with, but also pretty much exactly where you have been 24/7 365
Your Newer car has a Computer that is storing How Fast you drive and in newer models GPS tracking tells them where and when.
How would you like your insurance Company or Law enforcment to get hold of that.?
Banking info and Spending parterns Where/ When How much. Like to spend a liitle to much time at Bars? Your insurance company of Employer? might get access to that info.
Your Computer that is in your home and wired to the internet day and night.
Does it have a microphone built in? A camera?
YES THEY CAN TURN THEM ON ANY TIME THEY WANT. Not paranoid I know this for a FACT!!
All your searches and every URL you visit is being recored in several Data warehouses (Getting into your Head) what do you care about what do you think about?
Technology has made a world where there is nothing about your life that is private.
And every government entity is going to want access to the information for one reason or another.

sorry, meant to: http://kdka.com/national/bush.warran...2.1081641.html
stuck, it sounds like this is a different program than Panetta disclosed to congress. Not sure though, since they won't tell us what the programs were about.
This is the shit that Obama needs to be held to task on. He is letting us down.

I know this has probably already been discussed a few times, but why did you vote for Obama in the first place?

I hoped that he was truthful in his call for change. I was wrong.
That, and Palin.

That's the kind of change you are asking for isn't it? An outsider, Someone who has demonstrated that she won't be corrupted by the system and will actually try to bring our masters back to being our servants as the Constitution intended.

I and 51% of America would have voted for a Baby Panda over anything Republican. Yes, I'm serious.
Look at that!
And when did McCain go from being a moderate to being a far-right uber-Christian? Did I miss that transition? Was he always like that?

I would prefer her type of politician, republican or democrat because I do believe her when she says she believes in smaller, less intrusive gov't. I think we need many more candidates (rep. and dem.) who believe what she believes about our federal gov't.

I just hated Bush so much, that it was easy for me to believe him.
People (including myself) are stupid. They will believe anything they wish or fear to be true. I wished that it was true that there was a politician that would make radical changes to reverse the damage Bush caused. I was naive to think that all future presidents including Obama would not salivate at the executive power grab that commenced under Bush.
Ya know, that's how Bush fucked us the most. Obama is able to use all of Bush expanded executive powers to continue advancing his own agenda. (Which I still haven't quite figured out. I think it's really the same as Bushes. Make lots of money for the Cabal that rules the world).
I didn't hate palin for being religious. Believe it or not I have religious friends. But they don't believe that it is their responsiblity to push their beliefs on others. Sarah Palin belongs to a breed of very dangerous evangelicals. By dangerous I mean that they and their beliefs including the way that they attempt to spread their beliefs are poisonous to society.
I honestly still think that Palin was chosen in order to ensure the election of Obama. The powers that be needed to expand the war effort in Afghanistan and increase funding for Iraq and other venues. They also needed to be able to continue certain shady aspects of the war on terror. All of this is easier to accomplish with a liberal that's doing it for "the right" reasons than a war monger republican.
The whole thing is starting to remind me of what I have learned about the sixties. There seems to be a widening gap between what the people want and what the government is doing.
How many presidents can we tolerate with huge disapproval ratings?

Once the information about the warrantless wiretapping became known it was obvious that the Bush administration had very little regard for the law and was probably doing whatever it felt like, regardless of the Constitution, the laws and whatever rights most Americans thought they had.

You don't think Sarah Palin would use domestic surveillance?"My geode must be acknowledged"

What amazes me is the desire for power people in politics possess.
What amazes me even more is what they'll do to get that power.
