Thread: Removing iridium coating on a lens

I'd like to convert some old ski goggles into bike goggles, so I was wondering if anybody knew how to proceed to remove the coating of iridium on some old prodigys?

Flash it with a blow torch until the surface starts to bubble then while it's still warm to the touch a quick once over with a brillo pad.

Lighter fluid, rubbing alcohol and acetone serve only to make a big mess of your lens. I speak from experience

See if you can get a new lens. They're usually $20 - $30 depending on your goggles, cheaper if you get a single (which would do the trick for mtb).

My iridium lenses seemed to work fine for biking.

as long as they're in decent shape i don't see why you couldn't just trade someone for a clear lense.

Clear lenses are not necessary unless you're doing lots of bad weather riding, but then again, it's personal preference.

Those coatings are "embedded" in the lense surface. Try to remove = trashed lense.

peanut butter + Dog = no more coating on ur goggles. Seriously, my dog licked the coating off my sunglasses without any PB involved. Can't really see shit through them anymore though...
