5D Mark II news and clips

I'm digging this camera! I'm not so good at zooming in or out smoothly yet, and my homemade steadicam needs some work, but it's tons o fun to play around with.

On a super awesome note, Canon will now be giving the camera full manual control in video mode!!!!

Here's a couple of clips I've made so far.

    I'm selling my 1DsII and will be buying a 5DII: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/776990

I've decided that for the work I do, high-iso performance is more important than any of the features the 1DsII offers. And it offers a lot.

    Cool vids, btw.

Nah, people will still whine because it doesn't shoot 24p, doesn't shoot PAL, doesn't have mini-XLR, doesn't have a cure for cancer, and can't cure world hunger.

    Yup

Stoked they've got the full manual thing available though.

You mixed footage with this thing yet (IE with clips from other cameras)?

    Any headaches?

What are you guys editing in? I have Final Cut Express on my desktop, but supposedly it doesn't work real well with the files. I don't want to drop $1200 on Studio though because this is just a hobby for me.

I use an older version of Imovie HD. I absolutely fucking hate editing in Imovie however I too have yet to muster up 1200$ for the final cut studio.

I use Final Cut Studio. Editing is as simple as dropping the native file on the timeline, setting the settings to accomodate the file format and you're good to go. Plays back fine with no rendering needed unless you add transitions or color work.

I have Final Cut Express on my computer too, and I would think it would handle it just as well as Final Cut Pro.

Well from what I've read FCE will not. It needs to convert the file to a few different formats, and it tends to create a quality loss. Either that, OR, you have to render the file every time you add to it.

I've heard of people converting the raw 5DM2 clips to apple pro res codec when using final cut for editing. apparently you lose quality when you compress h264 footage as h264 footage.

Right, but the only program that converts is Final Cut Studio. You have to use a free converter to use in Express, and there's a loss of quality there as well.

XDCAM works good too. Smaller file sizes, fast conversion, easy editing, holds up well in post.
