9/4 Bolton Valley TR (pics) vid clip added
Met up with Mildbill, powder11 and non-maggot Alex on Sat for a day of lift served DH riding at Bolton Valley. Over the past 2 weeks VT has gotten a shit load of rain so some of the trails were pretty slimy to say the least which made for some spectacular crashes. One in particular that comes to mind was on a steep single track section with a sweeping left hand turn at the bottom of the first pitch. As the mild one is looking like he would clean this section he looses it and launches off the downhill side of the turn and ragdolls about 10-20 feet from his bike, elbows and assholes all over the place. Non-maggot Alex had the next best crash of the day as he left some impact damage on the side of a (lucky for him) rotten tree. Had that tree not been rotten we would have been scooping him up in a plastic baggie. As it was it only left him slightly more dazed than his previous safety meeting hit. Powder11 had a nice crash too taking a tree stup to the torso. I did not witness this one but was in ear shot to hear a loud uumphh as he hit and then hear MB ask if he's ok and then start laughing.
All in all it was a great day. We eventually ended up meeting up with Skijunky05 who recognized mildbills mug from the board and post office wall. We all agreed that skijunky has some serious DH skills, airing out some big hits and cleaning several log and ladder rides. Which by the way was no small feat becasue of the slick conditions. We also randomly met up with one of MB's college friends who turned out to be a pretty good rider too.
Props to MB and Basom for putting together the communal DH bike for me to use. I had a blast thanks and let do it again. Guys PM me if you want me to send some of those pics over email a couple came out pretty good. I have a couple more but biglines is not letting me up load stuff right now.
And if someone has a place for me to upload a short vid clip of the van hit speak up so I can get a link to the clip up.

big ups to vin for ripping the shit out of everything on a full-on galoot sized bike, and for causing less damage to said communal freeride bike than apk did (apk--cracked bb cup, ovalized square taper crankset/vinman--bent handlebars (still have no clue how he did that...)).
just got back from k-mart, it was nice and dryyyy (but they didn't have any vans to jump off).

Nice TR and pics.
Looks like fun. I miss those dense green forests of the east. I think next time i come home i am either gonna bring a bike or rent one, looks so different than the sands of tahoe.

Nice TR.
That tree bridge looks very cool and hard to ride.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

Nice TR and pics fellas. We could use some of that rain out here in California. It's a giant dust bowl on all the trails.

09-07-2004, 07:42 AM #13Sorry mang, I broke that rigged up seatpost clamp bolt too when I was trying to adjust the seat enough to make that huge bike somewhat comfy. Guess I don't know my own strength.Originally posted by basom

the placement of the van jump (in the middle of the ski run under the lift, with nothing but a fast rock garden for 100yds before it--getting onto the van is a big flat bridge, no speed check) is very conducive to hitting it wide open. notice that i am pushing my bike down to try and catch some of the tranny instead of way overshooting it and bottoming my fork as i had done for the rest of the day.
you can just hit it so fast. damn. one whole month before they run the lifts there again.
damn.

my guess is so they can get the trails good and muddy enough.

edit: vin--got the pics in the mail, thanks a lot for busting out the camera. i just left mine in my pack to get fallen on by me all day, which was smart. good thing i spent all that money on it. next time i say 'don't bother' when you wnat to take a picture of something like the big teeter totter, smack me. it would be cool to have some shots of that.Last edited by mildbill.; 09-07-2004 at 12:28 PM.

It was cool to meet all of you guys, thanks for letting me ride with you. Sorry I ditched out so quickly, but the young blonde DH chick offered beer and sex...so uh, yea, sorry I left.
I'll be racing at Plattekill this weekend then doing some trail work on the 4x course at Bolton from then on. October 16 & 17th should be a lot of (mud) fun, and I encourage everyone to come up.
Vin, thanks for taking pictures!

09-09-2004, 07:40 AM #24No worries, not only was she better looking than any of us, she was probably a better rider too. She definitely had some skills. Saw her clean that elevated log ride under the chair.Originally posted by SkiJunky05
