Mt Rainier: Gib Chute via Ingraham direct

The PNW has been off the hook for the past month with day after day of relentless storms becoming the snowiest March in 15 years. Conditions have been epic with constant accumulations in the double digits making backcountry days few and far between. Mid March we got a clearing between storms so I ran up to the famous slot Colouir with an Alpy local.

    The conditions were good

Now fast forward a few weeks and there was another break in the Weather.
Amar Andalkar (http://www.skimountaineer.com/) and I went to Rainier to tackle the Ingraham direct route.

We stayed at the Muir Shelter and rested the next day preparing for our summit attempt. After a slow start we were skinning around 8:00

We decided to descend the Gib Chute a more direct line back to the Muir Shelter.

The conditions in the Gib Chute was solid Ice with no room for Error so it was survival skiing until it softened up at the Apron

We rested until the early afternoon the next day to let the snow soften to Corn

And people think Im crazy when I say you can ski down from the top of Rainier.

Props to constantly bringing the stoke from the cascades.

    Thanks

Awesome job, not to thread hi-jack, but just for my orientation purposes could you tell me if I've got the location of Paradise correct and the route down the Muir snowfield to Paradise right in this magnificent sketch? I've been staring at the picture for awhile now and its really bugging me.

Fantastic Kyle, well done! Beautiful photos! Everything looks so small from up there, eh? You guys make it all look so easy. Bummer the snow wasn't a little more "fun" up high. Looks like you found some good turns tho.

    Great climb/summit/ski!

I liked the pace you guys took - so many folks rush it to the summit and scream down on the bullet proof, but you dudes chilled at Muir enough to time conditions - good on ya.

    Damn dude, you killed it.
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

Thank you for all the kind comments they are greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the kind alpy locals for showing me around my old stomping grounds and towing me on the high Traverse (damn Snowboarders) and introducing me to the Snoqualmie backcountry

Sadly my finances are running low so I have to put in a shameless plug

I wish I was more active in the BC when I was in WA. I was there on a very good year where inbounds was good and I traveled in the summer.

One day, I will be back, one day. Thanks
