this was one of those things where you hear something, say "no way", then you hear it again, and say, "WTF?" but I couldn't really get details or even confirm it from where I was..
just got home and was able to see the whole story.

I wish his family the best.
He is the guy that made me see skiing in a whole new lite. I will always think on him when I ski my Machete's.

Just one more post to say how saddened we are by this loss, and how our hearts go out to his wife, daughter and friends. Wish i'd had the opportunity to meet him.
Big loss to the planet.

There's Something About McConkey
He was easily my favorite skier and it reaches beyond the slopes, it was his attitude that was inspiring. I just wish he had more time to spend with his family, to teach his kid to ski - or just read Dr. Seuss.
His enthusiasm should not be forgotten.

my favorite quality in a skier: enthusiasm. hope your last day was as stoke and smile filled as you were in every clip, magazine, and movie that I've seen.

The face of this sport would be entirely different today without McConkey.

Very upset by this news. McConkey seemed like a very nice, down to earth guy. He was always my favorite to watch in any ski movie. And not just for his skiing. His personality during interviews really came through. The ski world (and ski movies) will never, ever be the same without him.

RIP
Definitely revolutionized the sport(s)
Not too surprising for someone that lived so close to the edge and chased the thrill of life.

Just got home to see that his happened. So much joy today - pow turns with great friends. Tough way to top it off - to see the guy who made me go out and get the life I want to live has passed. Hard telling what to make of this. Only thing I know is that tomorrow in Crested Butte, pow will be shredded and cliffs will be hucked in honor of an icon, THE icon. Superman.

GFP and I just cracked a beer for Shane and are about to watch Immersion. It's the end of an era. The man was an inspiration for many; he was the first pro skier I looked up to when I really got into skiing. RIP Shane.
Not on here much anymore. Drop me an email if you want to contact me. Have a wonderful winter!

I just aquired a used pair of Spats. Haven't been on them yet. Now they kind of look magical to me, like they are talking to me. Kind of surreal. Wow what a shock. Ski while you can. Damn.

I will be hooking up the old VCR and poping in my old ass copy of "There's something about McKonkey"........Shane was one of my inspirations and will continue to be.
