I feel like we all lost a friend-some of us just never go the chance to meet him in person. Too sad for words.

Until reading this thread, everything else I've ever seen regarding Shane made me burst into tears of laughter. These tears feel different.

    Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Never even met him, but he's up there with Plake as one of my biggest skiing icons/idols.

The skiing world really will never be the same...

I feel sick, trying to hold back the tears(its not working).

    Saddest news to here.

Like Powstash said, a few of us got to show him around Alta and I can't say enough of how impressed I was with his enthusiasm and pure love of life and skiing. We went out to Catharine’s and I showed him a pretty good little kicker that went down to a fairly sketchy landing. He looked at me, smiled and said "Is it a good jump?". I said yeah, thinking he would go look at it first. Nope, he instead throws a huge back flip off of it blind. I skied up to him, again he's smiling big and I asked how he could do that. He said "You said it was good and it was, I trust you.". Wow

The world needs more guys like Shane in it.

Holy fukkin shit. He used to have his chutes shipped to me in Nevada to beat the taxes and stop by my house to pick them up and always spent time with my stepson Travis, who just adored him. Shane was so approachable and so good-natured about everything. The last time I skied with him and his wife, it was like skiing with someone I'd known most of my life. It was always that way with Shane.

Damn, Scott, I know how tight you guys were. I'm so sorry for Sherry, his daughter and the loss to not only the Squaw Valley family, but the sport in totality.

Peace out, Shane. You were everyone's friend and we are sad we won't see you again this time around.

That just took a few minutes to process, he was such a huge influence in my growing up. He was in every ski movie I owned and I dreamed of being able to ski like him. Saucer Boy is gone. The world is less a place with out him.

This is the saddest Ive ever been, hearing about someone I've never met passing.

    So shocking, so sad.

I am blown away... this is the worst news of the worst kind.

I have never met anyone nicer nor more fun loving than Shane. We have lost one of the greatest legends that skiing will ever have.

RIP Shane. You did more for skiing than anyone else.

You died living and you lived life to the fullest. Thanks for the inspiration to keep skiing alive and fresh and fun.
