His enthusiasm and joy was infectious, even through the lens. I never saw a picture, video, or note about him that didn't make me smile. A unique individual who will be sorely missed.

so very stunned by the news and my deepest condolences going out to his family and friends.
He was truly an inspiration to myself in skiing and life in general, and clearly to the world at large.
I did not know him in person, or ever have the pleasure to meet him, but my eyes have been welling up with tears as I read through this thread. He has been an inspiration since the first msp/steve winter movies i watched in my parent's basement some 10 to 15 years ago, and as mentioned before, it goes FAR beyond just his athletic endeavors. He always seemed like the kind of good-natured genuine person we should all aspire to be.
Many thanks should also go out to Gaffney and MSP for helping to share his skiing, personality, antics, leaderships, etc. with the rest of us, for it has certainly affected everyone deeply, and probably deeper than they would have realized had you asked them yesterday.
The next drink is to Shane, you will be missed enormously and remembered forever

The movie 1999 at Squaw last week showcased qualities I respected most in such a pioneer and hero as Shane McConkey. His courage, skill, inovation and drive to expand what was possible pushed him into the realm of superheros. We dont get to be on this earth forever and he lived as passionately as he knew how.
Peace and condolences to his wife, daughter, friends and everyone he touched.

One of my heroes. So sad to hear of his passing. Stunned to say the least.
Prayers to his family and friends.Local Golden, BC area rep for Bluehouse Skis. Shoot me a PM if you'd like to try a pair when you're in the area!
"He is god of snow; the one called Ullr. Son of Sif, step son of Thor. He is so fierce a bowman and ski-runner that none may contend! He is quite beautiful to look upon and has all the characteristics of a warrior. It is wise to invoke the name of Ullr in duels!"

Wow, absolutely crushed.
Such an innovator and leader for skiing- the term "freeskiing", the IFSA, reverse camber, reverse sidecut, ski BASEing----- all from Shane.
I can't stop staring at the ground with an empty feeling. RIP
