My rather upset mother phoned me this morning to say that my brother - Hayduke - is in hospital at Mammoth after a pretty bad crash.

The sketchy version of events we have is that he may have hit a tree whilst skiing, that he has four or five broken ribs, a punctured lung and was out cold for quite some time.

We understand he's now basking in semi concious medicated glory, but I'd be really grateful if anyone has any more insight into what exactly happened, and whether he is actually alright.

Oh...and bro...when you get the WiFi linked in and can sit up without crying .... I hope you're alright and get well soon.

Ma' phoned this a.m. to say he was in hospital, (and she wasn't chuffed to then be told that i was heading out to ski rocks & ice in warp force winds in boney boney Scotland today).

When I heard that he'd cracked ribs I thought, not so bad and if there are no scars it doesn't count!.... But then 5 bust and a punctured lung sounds totally shit. Relieved to know I no longer have the monopoly on breaking bones. I'm gutted to hear you wrecked yourself Brah

if you press it more often it wont give you more meds, but it will record that you are hitting it and sometimes the nurses will up your dose when they come back to check it thinking that your in more pain.

I was going a bit quickish down lookers left of chair 22 (I think). I'm fairly sure my right binding just popped me out. I tried to compensate, couldn't and went a bit airborn. The last thing I remember was a group of 3 or 4 trees coming straight towards me.
Next thing was Gonehuckin' getting me to move fingers & toes and asking simple questions I struggled to answer.

I think I hit my back on one tree and head on another. I also think the helmet saved my bacon.

Turns out the puncture is tiny and the collapsed lung was probably caused by the impact. Also turns out it's 5 ribs snapped and one fractured. I'm dreading coughing/sneezing.

We were so close on getting you that damn catheter and an enema. Jim-hayduke will be up and skiing before you know it. He's definitely in some pain, broken ribs hurt like that. What he hasn't told you is that his spongebath nurse was a dude named timmy. Not tim. But timmy! It looks like we'll be picking him up and taking him back to la tomorrow. I'm not going to lie, it was a pretty frightening situation when it happened. But david is going to be fine and I know for a fact that he's trying to score us some pretty good pain killers to share.
