Is there such a thing as good solid ROCK anymore? Gimme your suggestions
I'm talking about Appetite for Destruction-esque stuff. I'm not looking for shrieking metal solos, I'm looking for crunchy riffing ROCK.
Backyard Babies are probably the closest thing I can think of that's out there right now, but they're hardly "new".
A few bands I've had the pleasure of discovering in the past year that fit the bill:
www.hostilecell.com They're Swedish, so they can't suck (not to mention Martin got me a cover shot on the March issue of Brant)
www.myspace.com/fallingredband just saw them last night and they killed.
www.myspace.com/disarmmusic saw them a few months ago and they also killed.

The Answer
'The Answer' is a pretty awesome band I discovered a few years ago, their album 'Rise' is pretty solid, not anything amazing or revolutionary, but it gets the blood moving.

I've been digging the Eric McFadden Trio lately, they play in Tahoe every few months and kill it. And Buckethead, when he's not getting too abstract, though no vocals (check Peppers Ghost). But really, most rock nowadays does kinda suck.

That would be classic early 80's "college scene" rock. American roots rock with and English invasion twist. I think a lot of that stuff was a revolt against the punk scene. Lets active, Guadalcanal Diary, Bodeans, Smithereens. 4 examples of the thousands. Originally Posted by dookey67

On a good day both the Black Crowes and Rose Hill Drive can hold their own, but they might be too "hippy" for your taste.

Far too weak-sauce on Black Crowes, Rose Hill Drive, and anything related to the Bodeans. I'm not looking for "your mom might like this-rock", I'm looking for "just a tiny step down from Metal-rock". There should be no hint of blues.
The Sword... did some research and it turns out they're opening for Machine Head and Metallica! I will be seeing them in just over 3 weeks.
I should also add Valient Thorr to my list of recently-discovered bands thanks to an awesome Volcom party at the JuJuanA barn for last year's LBS!Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

Gotcha.
There was a local band around here called Spools of Dark Thread that walked the fine line between full-on metal and just straight hard-edge rock. But I heard they recently parted ways. FWIW

This is turning into a pretty good thread.
One other I just thought of - The Giraffes. They opened for EODM in Denver a few years ago and rocked pretty hard.
This isn't their best song, but for some reason, I find the video really entertaining.

That Priestess album is pretty solid.
