MBSC's knee goes kaput
I was skiing with a bunch of rippin chix today. We were all lined up to take a bit of air. I took it, landed, but landed a bit off, and fell. I think it was in the fall when I felt my bones that meet to form my knee go in opposite directions and then snap back. At any rate, I sat there for a moment. "Are you okay?" The girls shouted. "Um no I think I just blew my knee out." "Are you serious?" "Um, yeah." The girls came down to meet me. I called GB and left a message on his phone, "Um, so I think I just blew my knee out. Give me a call when you get this message". Despite really being able to stand on my knee (it felt really unstable) I was able to make my way off of the steeps (from Hard Slab to Easy Way Out). At that point, I didn't feel like side-slipping down groomed runs on President's Weekend. So, I told them to get a sled.
I sent the girls on their way, but Mark stayed with me until patrol came and snapped this picture.

They took me to a doctor at the bottom of the hill where GB was waiting for me. Xrays show no broken bones. They did lateral stability test on me and couldn't tell exactly what was going on with my knee. But, I couldn't relax when they did the test, which means my muscles were probably tightening and leading to false stable results (which was the same case when I tore the ACL on my other knee 12 yrs ago). I still can't really put pressure on it w/o feeling like my knee is just gonna break apart or something. My knee hurts, but not nearly as bad as when I tore my ACL on the other knee. But, my gut tells me my knee is messed up- probably ACL or some other ligament.
C'est la vie. Injuries happen. Life will suck for awhile, but I"ll be back. I'll keep everyone posted about a real diagnosis and MRI results. Guess I'll be looking to the maggots for more stoke. And working on healing, working, and saving up for a trip for summer ski trip to South America

Bummer, MBSC.
But it sounds like you know that rehab is often a cruel karmic joke, in that with enough moxie, piss, n' vinegar, often you can come back stronger!
Take the opportunity, and blow your PT's expectations out of the water.
Hang tight!

Thanks for all of your support! Alison Gannett has lent me a good solid knee brace (she has 10 to choose from- this one is the same brace I used on my right leg 12 yrs ago, except it's a left leg brace) so I'm almost able to walk on my knee w/o crutches- maybe tomorrow. My knee is definitely more swollen today. I have an appointment with ortho Dr. Beim tomorrow, so I should know more then!

Bummer, heal fast and stay positive! Did you hear the 'pop'? I didn't the first time but did the second...

No, I didn't hear the pop, really. Nor did I hear it the first time (but I hyper extended my knee while landing a jump so the hyperextension was much more painful). But, the "snap" could be interpreted as a pop I suppose. All I know is the feeling I had mid-crash and I pretty much knew my knee was going to be really messed up. The swelling today confirms that!

Heal up, girl!
I didn't hear a pop either, but I sure as hell knew I'd done my knee.
As I was tumbling down the slope, I came up onto my skis a couple times, looked up at Vets, larry01 and tarkman and was saying, "Fuck! I just did my knee!" I felt like I bent it 90 degrees to the side.

Mend fast!!
The blues has always been about taking your problems and turning them into something you can dance to, drink to and fuck to.
We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.
