Smith Phenom - fungus in lens

I have a small fungus growing in the lens of my phenoms, his name is charles. As much as I enjoy his company, he obscures my vision. WWMD? Anyone have any remedies or is my lens gone? I could try warranty, but I hate skiing without goggles which is where I'd end up while I wait for warranty.

my fuse's did the same thing after half a dozen uses, just went into the shop and they swapped out the lenses for one from a pair of goggles ont he shelf........side note, wtf is up with smith goggles being so shitty? almost every pair I've had, less summer single lense ones, have completely sucked ass and gotten moisture between the lenses.....I should've learnt my lesson before, but half price deals are always so tempting.....

You can also send them back to SMith Warrenty, and they will send you new lenses.

I'm gonna go with "Keep you ski shit cleaner" for 500 Alex.

The moisture in your goggles is likely attracting mold from the place in which you store them. A ski bag, the floor or trunk of your vehicle, you're jacket pocket, etc... Clean that shit and you'll stop getting mold in the first place. Store your goggles in a dry place.

True, I store them on the table near the fireplace after use, maybe I need somewhere dryer. Also they probably get moisture while wearing them, maybe I should wear them less too, point taken.

I've had ~4 pairs, and liked them all.

addict, maybe call their warranty and see if they'll send you a new lens first, on the condition you send yours back? Maybe you can talk them into this.

I went on a rampage a couple of summers ago buying a whole bunch of smith goggles from SAC. Now I have like 7 pairs of smith goggles in my closet right now that are unusable because of 'speckles' between the lenses from moisture getting in there while skiing. Most of them were shot after about a half a day. In fact with one pair on the first run I ever used them I did a hockey stop and sprayed up some snow which somehow seemed to get injected right between the lenses...one run and done for that pair.

I have not had a single issue with any other brand of goggle EVER, fwiw. imo Smith lenses suck ass, period.

Ya I just bought some of those expensive frame-less Smith's and within an hour the inside of the lens had all kinds of moisture in it. Took them back the next day and got the old stink eye from the sales lady... like I was a snowboarder or something. I can't believe I paid retail for those in the first place. I was really just trying to support my local ski shop.

I really think Smith's quality is going downhill. I've had other issues too. But I really love that sensor mirror.

I would start first by calling Smith Warranty. First, they may have had this problem already and know how to handle it. They may have suggestions of how to get the mold out of your lenses. If not, talk to them nicely. Explain that you like their products, but you're disappointed because there's mold in these lenses. Explain that these are your only pair of goggles and don't want to ski w/o them. Any good company will back up their product appropriately. If talking to them doesn't work, write a letter, or try going to the shop where you purchased them. If none of this works, then boycott their product

They will cover this at warrenty, cost you $5 to send them back.

and how do you treat this? Wet the lense with water, wipe down with smith cloth then hit it with a hot hair dryer, keep the dryer moving. That gets rid of the spots.
Yes, they have seen this problem.

Yeah, mines not spots, it's a big fungus that's slowly growing. Been trying to contact smith, hopefully I'll get a result.

sometimes it took them a few days to get back to me (just warrantied a pair). You lens should definitely be warrantied though.

I have been using smiths for years and never had any problems like you guys....definitely sucks to hear that. I am pretty good about keeping then dry. Always make sure to dry them off when I get home, etc.

Lets hope I continue to have no issues.
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

I have a stye in my eye that's named doug, sometimes he talks to me and tells me evil things. I would like him gone as he obscures my vision as well. Any pointers?

My phenoms have been trouble free for 2 seasons now.

If the warranty folks don't take care of you, a water/bleach solution (liter of water with a tablespoon of clorox) will kill the fungus.

^^ I was thinking the same thing about the bleach, but I think it will leave water spots between the lenses which he won't be able to get off.

1-800 pro lens then warranty the old ones. that way you can also get a different color lens and youll have 2 when your warranty comes back.
