Thread: decent bindings w/ fat brakes that don't suck

I'm thiiiiiiissssss clllooooooossssseeee to pulling the trigger on some nice skis w/ 120mm waists, so I'd need some good clamps to go on them. No bendy-broken brakes please....

What are the options? I know Slam-on makes some... 914 or 916? Do the 914's have metal toe wings and heel blocks or just the 916?

If anyone has something in very nice condition I might be convinced to trade some medium Freerides for them.

Optics has some all metal 900 (din to 16)equipes for sale, 50$. Then you can probably get some fat brakes to go with them for 10$ from mtn lion

The 914s are plastic. Stick with the 916s. I own both, and the 916s shit all over the 914s. Totally solid, release only when they should, and I put probably 40-50 days on them before I had to tighten the toe wings on them. The 914s...fuck em.

For the brakes you probably want to do some mixing and matching. Solly makes an offset brake for fatties. The long arm is purple and the short arm is grey. So get two sets of the super fat brakes and swap the arms so you have one set that's all purple and another set that's all grey. That's what lph, myself, and others did on the Spatulas. It's really easy to swap the arms too. They just pop in and out. The best part is any good shop will only charge you for one set of brakes. You keep and pay for the purple ones and they keep the grey for mounting on another set of skis. This was especially nice for me since the all grey set fit my Gotamas (105mm) perfectly.

Edit: Almost forgot, try Snowcovers in Vancouver and Whistler. They carry 916s. This time last year, someone posted they were selling a few pairs for around $200-250 CAN. I was a moron for not getting them. Regularly they list them at $400 CAN, but who pays list? Oh, and for the discerning pretty boy they come in black/red or black/silver.

Ok seriously check out my exploder set up. zr 8-18 toe pieces with P14 heels, high din metal where tou need it, light weight palstic w/ wide breaks where you dont. either that or get the salomon 14-20 din binders since i have all of the solly jigs in my garage and will mount them for free beer

I have both the Rossi 185s and Salomon 916s. Both are excellent, although my preference leans towards the 916.

Like Arty50 said, wide brakes for the Salomon are no problem. Although the 916 uses a square base on the brake and the retail bindings use a round base, you can easily take both brake apart and re-assemble a square base wide brake. Upon reassembly you can bend further, if required.

Rossi 185 is a good binding, just bending the brakes to fit a truely fat ski is a bit of a pain (and can easily result in broken brake arms).

The biggest issue with team bindings, in my experience, is finding risers (although for fat skis, this you'd likely mount flat). Its always a good time to find some old risers and rummage up the correct screws.

Snowcovers is a good place to find specialized gear like this; most of it is already on the shelf.

I have attempted to bend 3 sets of them, and have only been succesful with one. So now im just ussing these toe pieces with the p14 heel. IT is a perfet combo in my opinion
