Hadn't seen this - but after hearing it helped get you a spot in Gordy's camp and checking it out, I'd say it was well earned!
Enjoy the camp! It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Listening to stokeless asshats argue politics and clueless jongs trying to get top dollar for thier gear isn't doing much to inspire the feelings of the "Turn". So thought I'd bump a kick ass TR and throw up a few pics and my experience. We were at the chalet a couple weeks after Gnarwhale.
We drove up from SLC were sitting in a pizza joint/bar in Golden and Tri-Unglate walks in. He was headed to Fairy Meadows that week, it reconfirmed my small world damn maggots are everywhere belief.
Saterday at the LZ we learned that the hut owner/builder Burnie would be
joining us. This was cool in that he had a lot of good stories about the history of the hut and area and seeing a 70 y.o. man breaking trail and getting after it was inspiring. On the other hand there were a few rather heated discussions involving route choices and terrain skied. Obvoiusly not listening to feedback from someone with that much local knowledge would be foolish. Yet on the otherhand had we wanted someone to make terrainchoices for us we would have booked a guided trip. All in all I found him to be a gracious host and a good guy. There are some areas that he deems forbbiden zones that if you choose to ski he would ban you from returning which seems fair enough.
Burnie in the chopper

If I make it to 70 and still gettin out I'll be stoked

The chalet itself is pretty swank and is dominated by thunder mountain

After a long morning of safety breifings and chopper trips and unloading We were greeted by the locals

and we got out for a short shot in the saterday trees.
The Mrs.

The next couple days brought fresh snow and sokrd in skies were spent skiing the waitabit trees and pillow lines below the hut.
Finally we got some clear weather and headeded up the notch over to the cambell icefields.

we skied some shots called diamond dust

and enjoyed the views
Burnie pointing out peaks to my bro Josh

Assitant hut keeper Hans (I think) dropping in off a cornice

He got a spanking from his 50 year elder for that move but a thumbs up from me
That evening we were treated to a steller sunset

Another lowlight day in the trees followed

The next day dawned clear and a few of us went for a slog over to East peak

looking back at thunder mountain the slope in the forground is one of the forbiden zones

East peak turned out to be wind jacked but the views were cool

A lot of amazing terrain

We worked our way around and the skidown from the high col was damn good

Obligtory group photo

16 people is a large group and there were some interesting group dynamics.
Not everyone choose to participate in morning beacon drills but a couple weeks later two of our party were involved in a full burial and I'm damn glad that they choose to practice and their beacon/rescue skills allowed for me to be able to spend another yurt trip with them in the future.

awesome TR on a very cool place.
I'm marking it down on the list of places to go before i die.
I'm assuming this is a big money trip... guess i'll have to start saving!
checked their website, 60% booked for 2010 already. no rate information though.
if anyone wanted to PM me with a general cost for a week up there i'd really appreciate it.

It's a big hut It could take 20+ so it's not that expensive. Last year was it came to ~ $400 per person +$350 for the chopper. That was unguided and uncatered. Na Burnie wasn't a burner but he had no problem with it.
If you like to backcountry ski and you have never done a hut trip do it.
Qnarwhale posted some good "lifestyle" shots even though it's a ski trip. Dinners, the suana, getting buzzed and goofy with your friends is a big part of a trip."When the child was a child it waited patiently for the first snow and it still does"- Van "The Man" Morrison
