    Swapping Binding Springs

I know that this has been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find any detailed info on how one sets the DIN after swapping. Is it simple addition/subtraction, or should you go to a shop and have it torque tested? Are the exponents involved or something (+ 1 DIN = 10x?, 2 DIN - 100x?)

For instance, say I were putting 6-14 springs in an 11-17 DIN binding (I normally ride at 11.5, but sometimes I need to dial it back to 10 or so if I'm just cruising or have sore knees). The first obvious problem is that there are different DIN ranges (7 points between 11-17, and 9 points between 6-14). If I wanted to set the springs at 10, would I go to exactly half of the 11-17 DIN window? What if I wanted it at 12, 13 or 8? Do you get into fractions of the DIN window?

Hopefully that description makes some sense.

The other swap I might want to make is putting a 3-12 spring in a pair of 914's (stupid aesthetic reasons for the gf's skis), and looking to set them at 5 or 5.5 - I'd guess I'd want the window to read about 8, but I don't know...

best is to use a binding tester to make sure the results are good. Hand calibrators are easy to use (or find used?)

Assuming that the springs are the same overall length, but one has 7 and one has 9 points, cranked is still cranked (17 vs 14) , and half is still half (14.5 vs 10).
