Extension tubes move the lens away from the image plane, allowing you to reduce the minimum focusing distance, thus get something close to macro photography. The tubes contain no optical elements; they literally just extend the lens away from the body of the camera.

Thanks! I'm starting to love photography ALMOST as much as I love skiing. I'm shooting with the K-5, and these three shots were taken with an old manual zoom that I bought for under $100. I really like Pentax glass! Also been trying to take fewer/better photos, I'm glad you all approve.
As far as selling prints, I'll be giving that a try in a month at my buddy's bluegrass festival. Hoping to make enough for a new old lens.Last edited by skiingislife; 06-08-2012 at 11:25 AM.

Here is one of my first ever attempts at taking a shot of the stars. Taken from my light polluted backyard.

Great page. I want a tutorial from Mtcham on those bubbles. Those are beautiful abstracts and the color and processing is perfect.
supermodel, beautiful photos of a beautiful little girl. Getting much sleep?
and I have to echo everyone on skiingislife's... The plane in front of a really well-exposed moon is top-notch. There really isn't anything that isn't really strong with that shot from processing to comp. I like the layered sunset rays really well also.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Put Rain-X on a piece of glass. Put something colorful underneath it. Spray with spray bottle. Take picture.
This post has a setup image. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...&postcount=497
BTW... that thread is excellent for setup pictures and their result. Almost 200 pages of awesomeness.
