Thanks. It's on the list, trust me. I run into the classic problem of not wanting to haul around a big DSLR, but not wanting the shitty photos of tiny point and shoot. So I did the stupid thing and went somewhere in the middle. Middle of the line super zoom.

I need to upgrade, it's on the short list. Recently fell in love with the new Panasonic GX1. Digging the Micro 4/3 products. Exactly what I need. Problem is... theres things like all carbon lhasa fats on the list too..

I can't resist taking pics of crashes.

This is how I see it.

I guess I should add one of my own kid. Even if she does look late on that gate.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Guilty as charged. I've really been struggling to come up with a good signature. Something not too fancy, just simple and classic. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

This coyote seems to have run out of room for more tracking devices or piercings. Would be nice if they trapped him one more time and took that shit off.

Nah dude, that coyote is just visiting from the Mission district of San Francisco. Coyotes from out here wear that shit all the time - it looks hella rad on the fixie bikes. Only thing is, where is his super tight hoodie?

    Holy crap. That's sick!

I'm trying to learn to photograph people. Criticism is helpful if you've got it.

I saw that on Facebook. Ridiculous!

Outtabounds, you have great light, focus, etc. Technical aspect is dialed. Now you just need to get the subject comfortable behind the camera.

IMO, the portrait should be just as much a narrative as any other kind of image. Having a successful picture relies on having an intent with your subject matter. What are you trying to say with this one? What do you want us to see or notice about him? Why are you taking his picture.

And a trick that I use to try to 'break the ice' with subjects I am shooting with, especially those that aren't used to having their picture taken, is to embrace the awkward waiting period. For staged portraiture at least. It helps if you have a long setup time with your gear, but even if you are shooting digi or slr, I just hold the setup pose for like 30 seconds and tell them that I want to wait to take their picture until they are uncomfortable. It usually gets a laugh, then I take their picture after they stop smiling or whatever.

Another tip is to always carry your camera around to social situations. It'll take a few days/times to get your subjects to the point where they stop posing or pausing for you. Once they don't give a shit, that is when good pictures happen.

That said, ymmv as I am no pro at this. You have a good start though!'

edit to add: that might almost be too sharp, at least for my taste.

And all of this to say, that is a solid portrait. Keep at it!

Speaking of people, just got this one scanned in. Brad is 25 at the time this was shot. His look is pretty ridiculous, but that's what portland does to a kid I guess.
