question for anyone more knowledgeable about gelande than me:

I was up there yesterday, and some of the guys were starting to practice. They're all on old school super long skinny straight skis. It seems like it would make more sense if they were on super long super fat skis (more air floatiness). Are there some rules about gelande that say you have to use skinny skis (maybe they have to be FIS legal or whatever)? Or is there some other advantage to skinny skis? Or do the people doing it just not care enough to pick up a pair of long fatties?

No rules, just physics. The long skinny skis are all about speed, which is what makes for the long jumps. While fat skis might give more wind cushion, it's unlikely enough to offset the difference in speed, between a 220 downhill ski, and a fat ski that is made for powder/crud etc.

Even Griz Chute seemed to be half decent today, not to mention my first high speed lawn chair of the year. It was truly glorious that we had 3 meals of fine meats grilled in the lot and many beers under the sun. Lots of fun people out today, and some really sweet jumps. I hope some one on the board ended up getting a free chunk of meat

Just water with some lemon slices.

Perfect corn in West Bowls today (I'd rather it was acting like winter, but I believe in making the most of what there is). I didn't have much time to ski, what with sleeping off the previous night's saturation, and having to leave early for work, but I lapped West Bowls 4 times, and increased the definition of my coon eyes.

Anyone here ever been in the hot tub at the Gelandesprung? We're thinking of getting some rooms up there for a friends birthday, and I need to know how cozy I'm going to be getting with a bunch of dudes in that tub. Is it a big 10-12 person tub, or a small 4-6 person tub?

There's always room for 2 more in the tub, you may just need to refill it the next day.

Sadly nothing but a hole. Times are tough.

The skiing was pretty good today, the upper bowls were a tad bit stiff, but nothing that precluded bombing down them. Lower down was very good, though my last run, down Griz Chute just after 3pm, was too soft; the base was mushy.

6" up top at the bowl...damn, tough call where to go. More snow at Lolo versus chairlift.

So I rode Lavelle today with a guy who was VERY concerned about how he was getting down. He had never been to the Bowl before and was a little intimidated by the uh...variable conditions. I told him to go down Paradise. I even skied him over to the big trail map and pointed at that and the ND Downhill. I assured him Paradise would be groomed.

Later, I skied Paradise...and it was the most heinous 'groomer' I've ever seen. Large chunks of solid concrete intermixed with with even bigger piles of wet concrete. It was epic. In a horrible sort of way.

That dude probably hates me. A lot.

In other news, there is an actual winter storm warning posted!!! Unbelievable. Might take quite a bit to fill in the bumps, but I guess it could have been worse.

Also, I threw some sick spreads today. And I invented the Alien Blowjob - a 3/4 spread eagle where you "claim" your nuts with both poles inverted (think antennae). I knew I was put on this earth for a higher purpose, and now I'm quite sure I've found it.
