backpack for photo/snowboarding
Hi all,
I need a new backpack for my photo stuff when doing hikes. I have been looking at the Dakine sequence, but just wanted to check with your guys what you use.
My wish list:
-should be usable as a "normal" backpack on those days when I don't carry my gear out there
-Horizontal board holder would be nice (just like the balance better when I'm hiking)
-Proper (not flimsy) harness
-Solid
-Tripod mount
I do not need a laptop holder (who brings their mac out hiking anyway?), and it would need to acommodate a Canon 1d (which is a fairly big DSLR body) and a 70-200 plus a wide angle and some smaller gear.
if anyone knows about a backpack I should check out I'd appreciate it
Thanks!

Dakine Sequence is right up your alley. Used it last season, but downgraded to a North Face bag. I just throw my 1D wrapped up in now.

I think the consensus among the ski photogs I know is to wrap your slr with a 70-200 mounted in a sweatshirt and throw it in your pack. I shove my wideangle in a lens case and drop it in there too. Then just lash you tripod to your pack if you need it, though I rarely (read never) use a tripod while skiing.

Burton makes a bag called the Zoom (or something like that) as well, though the Dakine is probably better made.
edit: found it on REI's site

Burton's bag is cool, but the zippers on mine busted after just 2 years. Burton wouldn't warranty it.

f-stop backpacks look nice and are used by lots of pros

I'm probably going with a BD Outlaw this year (back panel access) with the highly sophisticated fleece-wrap storage method.

Sequence pack is awesome! Let's me carry all of my gear and accessories and steel lets me ride without feeling uncomfortable. It is also very well padded and protects your gear a million times better then the "wrap in fleece" method. When you dont want to take all your gear, you can pull out the camera block and just use the pack. It also has a tripod carry that works well and just enough room for an extra layer and a snack if you need it. The camera block can be used as a regular camera bag too, which is convenient and ads value
