Is my ipod fuct?
I've been listening to it in the rental heep I've got. As I pulled out of Grande Cenote I plugged it in to the radio transmitter andit crackled, then nothing. I brought it back to Casa PLayaMaya and plugged in my head phones and it played really crackly. I rebooted it now it says it's playing but no music comes out. I can hear the click wheel noises but no music.
Edit: It started working until I turned the volume down. It was a little crackly but it better than it had been. Now it's back to nothing.
What a piece of shit. I'll probably never buy another ipod product again. A the price that charge they should last longer than a year and a half. Time to load it into a potato cannon and blast it through the corporate HQ's front window.Last edited by Beaver; 11-17-2008 at 04:31 PM.

I have a second gen with a cracked screen that works just fine (luckily it was on random when it cracked). Maybe you should have spent the extra money and got the Apple Care if you can't take care of your shit over a year? Also, is the FM transmitter Apple? Ever stop and think that was what fucked it up since that was when the problem first happened?
Just saying that you are blaming Apple when the issue could be from a number of things.
Ohh yeah, I have an 7 year old Powerbook that still works fine too. And a 10 year old G4 tower, and...

Don't the clicker wheel sounds come from the wheel?
I sounds like a broken solder or intermittent connection at the audio output. If you shake it (gently) does it make a difference?

No, I get it, you're an idiot. When you plugged the Griffin product in that Apple suggested you buy something funny happened to your Apple Product. Then you complain that Apple products are pieces of shit because probably a user or after market product malfunction caused their product to stop working as advertised. I completely get it, 2+2=7.
I mean, why would a perfectly working $300+ piece of equipment suddenly have a problem when an $80 piece of equipment suddenly gets plugged into it. It must be the horrible expensive product that had a factory defect and couldn't possibly be the cheap Griffin POS (which have been plagued with issues for years if you did your research).
With every post you are making yourself look stupider. Just stick to what you know...pr0n.

So when you have the headphones plugged in, is the FM transmitter unplugged?
If it's just a problem when the FM transmitter is plugged in, well you have your culprit. Take it back to an Apple store and have them swap out for a new transmitter.
If it's hosed in both scenarios, try a simple reset. If that doesn't work, then do a restore through iTunes. If it's still hosed after that take it into an Apple store. They've been very good about fixing iPods.
If you don't get help there, come back here. There are other things you can do to reset it.
In my case, repeated use over 10,000' hosed my hard drive. Nobody's fault but mine. I just replaced my hard drive and battery and my iPod is like brand new. The battery was fine, but I upgraded it to a bigger model since I had to replace the hard drive.Last edited by Arty50; 11-17-2008 at 06:09 PM.

Are you fucking kidding me? Did you click the link in Beaver's reply to you? Read it. It says right there in plain view that it IS COMPATIBLE WITH HIS IPOD. If it didn't say that and said "this could possibly fuck your ipod up" I could see how you'd be right. But you're wrong. And fucking retarded.

Jokes on you, I go to trade school - no logic needed for me, bitch. I'm guessing my sarcasm detectors broken, but if it's not then explain to me how what you're saying isn't completely retarded and what I'm saying is? (rundown: apple approved product screws up a apple ipod)
Edit: And I'm not saying apple will cover this under warranty, it says on their website that they're not held liable for anything. I am saying that it shouldn't fuck the ipod up if its being sold and listed as compatible on apples website, that it theoretically should be covered under warranty, and that you shouldn't insult the porn kings intelligence. It works after it sits for awhile but only through the speaker output. After a few minutes it gets crackly then completely dead. If I plug it into the Bose dock it is immediately dead, if I unplug it from the dock it remains dead for a while. It was dead before I ate dinner but now it's working.

Since it's an intermittent problem I would bet that the connector at the base has a broken/bad connection. I would guess that the audio output splits to the bottom connector and to the volume control for the headphone jack. If there's a short at the bottom connector it would mess up the headphones as well. The bottom connector seems like the weakest point in the design as it would be easy to torque on it if you're not careful. Take it to Apple. They might know right away.

i had a click wheel that lasted 2 years, then i fell out of my pocket while skiing, then i had a video that lasted two years before the headphone jack went out.
overall, i have had better luck with ipods than anyone i know
Claiming the third party adapter is at fault is bullshit
what about you other one that lasted 3 months?Preserving farness, nearness presences nearness in nearing that farness

Stick it in the freezer for 36 hrs. It doesn't take the smell out of ski boots, but it usuallly restores irritable ipods

Very true but in my experience they only last about a year and a half, i keep getting refurbed ones cause i like the ipod and dont want to change my music format
my last ipod had the headphone jack go out--i tried splicing in one from an older ipod, no luck. however do save old ipods cause i have had some luck combining components to make a super ipod, but i have never had one of those last very long.
interesting advice--will definitly try that next time mine shits the bedLast edited by peck257; 11-18-2008 at 11:15 AM.
