    center line marking

What's the best way to measure and mark the centerline (longitudinal) on your skis, for binding mounting?

What are you looking to measure?

Center of running length? (Mark the two points where the ski touches the ground when lying flat, measure distance between marks, halve it, bingo.)

Center of sidecut? (Either find the narrowest point of the ski, or two points of equal width on either side of ski center, mark, halve, bingo. Pintails or progressive sidecuts can mess up this though.)

Center of ski? (Tip-to-tip, halve, bingo. Not really applicable to anything but nearly symmetrical twin-tips.)

The three will be identical on a fully symmetrical park ski, but different on anything else...

I mean the length wise center line, running from tail to tip.
So I know where to position (left-right alignment) the paper template for my dukes.

spend the $20 for some digital calipers. It makes measurements like that really easy and accurate. It'll also come in handy for double checking other measurements when mounting with paper templates.

Cut a 1" strip of paper that is longer than 2 times around the ski...

Wrap it straight and tight around the ski at the point you want to know the middle...

    Tape it together.

Make good creases at the edge of the.... edges...

    take it off.

Fold it in half between those creases you just made.

Put it back on the ski, and the new crease at halfway should be bang in the middle. Double check by putting it on the other way around.

    All above is from Wildsnow.com
