Thread: Super-durable and warm gloves/mittens?

The average life span of any gloves or mittens I have owned is usually only about one season (often less), and on the super cold winter days nothing has ever kept my fingers from freezing (hands sweat a lot). I've gotten into using Smartwool liners which are awesome, but that still doesn't solve the problem of tearing through the exterior of any glove from toe-side finger dragging and deflecting branches through tight trees.

I'm looking at things like the Marmot Work Glove, some Hestra gloves, Dakine mittens, but frankly I'm skeptical about whether any of them can hold up to my demands.

Suggestions?

there's been a couple threads like this before.
my marmot work gloves held up fine for ~10 days a season for 7 seasons but are now relegated to the truck's glove compartment. The hestras (xcr short) that replaced them are tougher, more dextrous, and much warmer.

Ortovox Antarctis, everything else is just kiddy play.

Can't speak to their durability, but tried a pair of these on the other day and they seemed warm as F, but still had pretty good dexterity

Havent tried the oven mit, but I can highly recommend the AK 3L hover mits. Warm does not begin to describe it. 2 removable 5 finger liners and goretex proshell outer mit.

I think burton may have moved to 2l performance shell for 08/09 but the 07/08 is deff pro shell.

You need 2 pairs of gloves, switch them out mid-day.

Cheap & reasonably warm: $15 Head brand gloves at Costco. Buy a couple pair.
Less cheap & warm-to-very-warm: Black Diamond gloves. Watch SAC / Tramdock for deals ($35-50). Some are warmer than others; I think the warmest pair I have are the Stratos gloves (big gauntlet, removable liner).

Rocky Mountain Hand Shoes out of MT with Air Force wool liners. Bake the gloves with snow seal. Total cost will be under $40 and they'll last forever.
