    skiing saved me

this is a false alias, i post her e on a regular basis for like 3 yrs now but i don't wan tto spill my guts as myself.

Exactly one year ago tonight I entered into the worst time of my life, basically I fell in love with a girl but did'nt talk to her or tell her how I felt, when I finally did it was too late and she was long gone. I was totally devastated, I seriously wanted to die inside, I lost all appetite, food tasted like shit, I felt like shit and I lost 10 pounds ( a lot since im 6' and only weighed 155) I was severly depressed for about 3 months, nothing was appealing ... except skiing, somehow the thought of skiing brghtened the prospects abit and it got me through. when i skiid i totally forgot that I felt like shit. i don't know if it was the euphoria of making fresh turns, or focusing all of my attention on a single task, but it got me through and gave me a love for this sport that i'll never lose. I have no clue what I would've done without it. A year ago I wondered how I would make it , what I would do, the answer was SKIING. I was thinking about what skiing had done for me and I realized I owe nearly everything to it. It shaped who i am in almost every way imaginabe since I was 12 years old. Gave me direction, a hobby, passion, an identity, introduced my greates friends, and more memories /good times, great feelings than anything else I've ever experienced. I dont want to bore, but...

I was just wondering if skiing had saved anyone else?

It didn't save me as much as it helped me rediscover myself/what I wanted out of life and remind me of the joy of being alive (which got lost for a while).

I'm glad you pulled out of that bad place, dood. There's nothing like a mountain, the shimmering snow, the sunshine, and the crisp air to wake you up out of a funk and remind you that life is awesome!

Its clear skiing means the world to you. In this case, ski more. The more time your on the mountain, the more time your likely to run into a girl who shares your passion.
Im counting on that for me

It has saved me many times from serious, mega-problems....but not from stupid emo shit like a girl you were too pussy to even let know how you feel.

I don’t know if I can say that skiing saved me, but it has gotten me through some rough times. When I was in the military not too long ago, I would watch TGR videos and look at old ski pics and dream of how I would one day move to Colorado, when the times got tough. Even when I was in Iraq, I covered my little living area with pictures cut out of skiing magazines that were sent to me. It really helped when it seemed nothing was going well. Now I live in Colorado and it’s supposed to snow tonight!
I plan on hitting the trees all winter long!

I agree; skiing has gotten me through some rough stuff as well.

If skiing has given me anything it's a passion for living.

    Get out and live!

yes I think the take-home message here is that these dumb emo kids who are cutting themselves over girls and popularity and stuff wouldn't have so much time to invent problems for themselves if they had a worthwhile pursuit (addiction?) to throw themselves at. Get off myspace and go outside, son!

(Now that's not to say I don't think clinical depression is serious and sometimes hereditary, I just think many people's is self-induced. Congrats on getting back on your feet!)

    Well said.

Skiing saved me from being a fat, drunk LSU fan. That's probably where I'd be otherwise...

Skiing hasn't saved my life, but it certainly has ended quite a few relationships

Skiing save my life for sure.

Not gonna go into details on a public forum, but rest assured it did.

PS- girls are supposed to be into you, not the other way around.

To quote Plake, "skiing is where I went to make things right".

I can't say it saved my life for sure but I can say that it put me in a healthier place to deal with challenges that life threw (continues to throw) at me.

The situation with the gal was obviously a lot more complicated than what is written here, I did talk to her, and I got slammed, bec ause it was too late. and I am definitly not emo, which is why it was so tough, because I had never felt dissappointment like that before, to have that hanging over my head was miserable until I woke up and got away from it.
I'm usually stoked to be out there and getting after it, I've logged over 50 days a season for the last 5 years straight, 75 last year alone. I didn't want to rag out my probs, but I definitly wanted to express how much skiing has done for me. Thanx for the responses.

Skiing's done nothing for me except leave me broken, bruised, and knocked stupid. And every winter I keep coming back for more abuse and dreaming about it in the summer.
