Who needs Fruit Flies when you have Jesus? ...or how to cure the retard Palin.
Do we really need another moron in the White House?
seriously wtf? Did she take any science at one of those six colleges?
NOBEL PRIZE FOR GENETICS OF DEVELOPMENT 1995 STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Three biologists have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their pioneering work on the genetic control of embryonic development. The researchers work with the Drosophila melanogaster fruit fly provided key information on factors influencing human embryology and birth defects. The recipients of this year's prize are Drs. Edward Lewis, of the California Institute of Technology; Christiane Nuesslein-Volhard, of Germany's Max-Planck Institute; and Eric Wieschaus, at Princeton. Each of the three were involved in the early research to find the genes controlling development of the Drosophila fruit fly.
The fruit fly, now a standard model in genetic research, is an ideal research animal since it develops from fertilized egg to embryo within nine days. "Most of the genes studied by Nuesslein-Volhard, Wieschaus and Lewis have important functions during the early development of the human embryo. It is likely that mutations in such important genes are responsible for some of the early, spontaneous abortions that occur in man, and for some of the about 40 percent of the congenital malformations that develop due to unknown reasons,'' according to a statement from Sweden's Karolinska Institute.

Rerun, but...
As someone who vehemently opposes Obama, I would like to go on the record as saying that this woman is a national embarrassment.
it's all young and fun and skiing and then one day you login and it's relationship advice, gomer glacier tours and geezers.

10-29-2008, 10:42 PM #8love this quote, sadly I think we will suffer the burden of the religious right in the US for a long time to come. This is where the Republican party has ended up: supporting an ignorant buffoon who believes in the End Times and speaking in tongues while deriding some of the best and most successful strategies for scientific research. In this next election, we've got to choose between the 21st century rationalism and Dark Age inanity. It ought to be an easy choice.

10-29-2008, 11:28 PM #10here's what they said (i was personally affected by this):Seventy six American Nobel Prize winners endorsed Barack Obama in a strongly worded letter rebuking the Bush Administration's contempt for science.
http://www.newshoggers.com/blog/2008...can-nobel.htmlDuring the administration of George W. Bush, vital parts of our country's scientific enterprise have been damaged by stagnant and declining federal support. The government's scientific advisory process has been distorted by political considerations. As a result, our once dominant position in the scientific world has been shaken and our prosperity has been placed at risk. We have lost time critical for the development of new ways to provide energy, treat disease, reverse climate change, strengthen our security, and improve our economy.
We have watched Senator Obama's approach to these issues with admiration. We especially applaud his emphasis during the campaign on the power of science and technology to enhance our nation's competitiveness. In particular, we support the measures he plans to take - through new initiatives in education and training, expanded research funding, an unbiased process for obtaining scientific advice, and an appropriate balance of basic and applied research - to meet the nation's and the world's most urgent needs.

^ that article is from 2003. the "new weapon" mentioned therein was awarded to llnl with significant budget cuts based on their design promising verification without physical testing. since 2005 stockpile stewardship funds have been decreasing steadily cutting budgets and programs (including ours) significantly each year. this is the last one: http://www.koat.com/news/16722511/detail.html

Love that she says, "Paris, France". Thanks for clearing that up.
