any ust rim that has the same erd as your old rim, line the valve holes up tape it to the the old rim after de tensioning all the spokes and lace one at a time over.

It will be hard to find a ust rim with the same erd as your old rim, you are pretty much stuck with mavic 819 or stans.

OR you could just buy a stans kit or ghetto stans the thing.

I seen kids with no money doing this using the same spokes & hub at the LBS but they used the exact SAME rim .

will also need the UST spoke nipple holder/adaptor things for the mavic UST rim.

odds are the rims sizes will not be the same anyways.

mavic 819 was the rim i was looking at but was not clear on how the spoke nipples threaded and whether i could utilize my hubs.Things are a little clearer now.Looks like i would need new spokes and adapters but hubs are good.

I'd do the ghetto tubeless set-up if I were you. unless your rims are completely trashed..... but even then I'd do the ghetto tubeless set-up.

if you haven't seen it search the forums on MTBR or Pinkbike, you'll find tons of info I'm sure.

or I'll give you the 30 second version right now.....
    1. lightly inflate a 20" tube so it holds a round shape
    2. stretch it over the rim, putting the valve stem through the rim
    3. cut that sucker right down the middle so it lays the extra rubber over both sides of the rim
    4. affix your new tire, one bead completely on, the second about 80%
    5. add 2 scoops of stans goo
    6. finish installing the tire
    7. inflate with an air compressor. dont bother trying a bike pump.... it won't work and is a HUGE pain in the ass. if you don't have a compressor, go to the gas station and use theirs.
    8. once you're sure there are no leaks (i usually ride it a couple times, or at least let it sit overnight) trim off the excess tire hanging out around the bead with a razor blade.

the only con to this system is that everytime you change the tire (or get a flat) you need to use a new 20" tube. once you've done it once it is a piece of cake. so... in a year or two you'll throw out a few tubes, but it's way cheaper (and a better opportunity to drink beer) than buying a fancy UST rim.

    hope that helps.

I should add one thing about the ghetto tubeless/stans thing.... not all tires are compatible with stans goo. maybe the maggot collective can add what works and what doesn't.

so far I've used Maxxis, IRC and WTB tires without any problems. in fact they all work swimmingly.

I've used Kenda tires and had trouble. seems something in the stans goo (ammonia I think) causes the sidewall to de-laminate and "bubble". I called Kenda and asked them about it, said even though the tire was a tubeless tire, they didn't recommend sealants and adding them would void the warranty.

Thanks for the info Tick.Ive looked at the ghetto tubeless, theres a real good pictorial on NSMB.I really like the Nevegal stickys for the shore type conditions around here and have heard of problems with them from a few sources when ghettoed. The Ust solution just seems so much more set it and forget it.Ive got plenty of better excuses to drink beer.

I had trouble with kenda non UST/stans fluid /819 & no rim strip losing air ...10lbs every night.

I did also run UST versions of maxis high roller & schwalbe Big jim with zero problem or hassles and I think the difference in weight is not much when you take into account weight of the stans kit...propbably theweight of a regualr tube

If you wana go tubeless on a non -UST setup by all means go stans ,but if you have it to do from scratych I would just go 819 and a UST tire
