Kerry Picks Edwards (obviously NSR, political)
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/06/po...D-KERR.html?hp
Kerry picks Edwards as his running mate. He apparently wants at least a piece of the Southern vote (Edwards being from NC). Bush, predictably, mocked Kerry for it saying "John McCain is Kerry's #1 choice for running mate". Apparently Kerry's earlier remarks about Edwards not being qualified because of lack of experience are no longer relevant?

Not necessarily, Edwards will likely be better for bringing in the midwest vote, but I dont know how many electoral votes Edwards will help bring...Bush did carry Edwards home state during the last election. The Bush campaign has already started bashing Edwards for being a trial lawyer and a slave to special interests, although it seems like thats stretching a bit, I dont think it will weigh too heavily on the campaign. The Cheney/Haliburton connection is much more auspicious than Edwards.
But man, if Kerry wins, it will be one quick trip to the top by Edwards. From no political experience to vice prez in 6 years is pretty amazing.

Dewey defeats Truman!
I saw everyone reading the Post on the subway this morning, and couldn't believe he had chosen Gephardt. Can't wait to see the Daily News make hay out of this one.

Who would you rather see as Kerry's running mate? Dick Gephardt? No way. He's got the stink of loser all over him.
Let's face it, the VP choice is all about creating a balanced ticket, not about picking the best person for the job. I think Edwards is the right choice based on this.

Hey Flyk, why the hatred for one of the true populists still around?
I think the man had a clear focus on one of the biggest problems in the US today, our huge divide between rich & poor ( formerly known as Middle class)
he steal your girl or sumpthin?
& no offense but you live in UT, your vote for President really doesn't count anyway.
our whopping 5 electoral votes were in Bush's pocket before the race even started

I don't think I "hate" him any more than any politician. I disliked the way he ran his campaign in NC. He flip-flopped on issues as fast as any trial lawyer could. He could speak to liberals at the U. of New Jersey (Duke) one day and good ole-boy pig farmers the next and come out smellin like roses. Like I said, about the same as any other politico.
My main dislike about him is his background. He's your basic, back of the phone book, ambulance chasin', personal injury lawyer. I'm sure that will get twisted into some kind of "advocate for the comman man" type theme in short order.
And, yeah, I dig what your saying about UT, sucks, but doesn't mean I shouldn't care.

What is populist about using lower/middle class people's tragedy's for your personal gain?

Did anyone see what the John Stewart Show did with this misprint. I saw a clip that they were going to go interview a Kerry spokesperson and tell him he didn't know what he was talking about because of this headline. However, I didn't get to see the show."Don't drive angry."

It looks like they are about to make out...
And flykdog, Edwards was hardly an ambulance chaser. Even if that was the case...those people need representation too. But Edwards did product litigation. For example, he represented the family of the little girl who was drowned in a hot tub because the tub sucked her hair in and wouldnt let go. You might want to try and look at it the other way...he represented the average joe who got injured because of a large company's legligence. He happened to be very good at it, and made a fortune doing it well. Why is that something we should hold against him? We've all heard his Horacio Alger story, I dont see any problem with the man.

I'd much rather vote for someone who profits from fighting corporate power than someone who profits by enhancing it.
That said, he's the running mate of a corporate whore... crap, what's a brutha to do.
