Yes, that Michigan.
Had a bit of rain, didn't we. So, that means that our wee little Red Cedar river is at flood stage. The wee little dam behind the MSU stadium has a nice little wave or two.
Would love to post the pictures but THE RIVER ATE MY CAMERA.
If you see it, please return it. You can keep any infections you get from pulling it out of the river. I know I have gotten at least a few today.
My first day in the boat on water moving faster than a crawl and it was TERRIFYING. I think I need to do this in steps, ha ha! Got the boat about a month ago, and only got out onto Lake Michigan to play in some waves, which was fun. I learned some ferrying today, and how to flip forwards accidentally. Maybe I should have leaned back farther, my head wasn't quite touching the rear of the boat.
I thought I had my rolls down pretty tight, but they are tough to do when you are pinned against a tree. Flood, remember? Lost a shoe that time.
What the hey, only swam like five times, and did make one roll. So, thanks you other two fellas out there with me today for the tips. Yeah, I was with them. My skin itches and my eyes are burning still, so I think it was not too clean, a shower didn't seem like enough.
We made it into a fair number of MSU fan's pictures from today, so maybe one of them will post a pic, or we will make it into the local free paper.

Dude - You rode the dead cedar? really? you should have just flushed and dropped the class 3 in the bowl... faster AND cleaner!

No seriously - good on ya for hitting the target of opportunity - that creek flows a torpid Class 0.5 or less 99% of the time."Those 1%ers are not an avaricious "them" but in reality the most entrepreneurial of "us". If we had more of them and fewer grandstanding politicians, we would all be better off."

I'd love to see some pics if they ever become available...I grew up just north of Lansing and I'm usually in the area 1-2 times / month.

I am sure they will be available, if someone finds the camera.
there is a chance that my buddy might have taken some pics too.
But, the Red doesn't usually have anything this interesting, but now and again it does.
True, it really is gross. I have gotten quite sick before from kayaking in it after a storm. I don't know, it's so boring here, we tempt fate where we can I suppose.
Ha ha!

Here is a vido of the red this spring, the first wave was easily several feet taller than this yesterday, and there was a second wave behind it.

A friend of mine in the photo department got a picture or two of a kayaker and surfer on Tuesday - any chance that was you? I'll try to get my hands on a copy. Still can't believe there are people willing to get in that river...

Nope, but I bet I know who the kayaker was. We are going up to Piers Gorge at the end of October.
Surfing, now that is bizarre. I would like to see a picture of that!
I got into the river reluctantly. My eyes still kind of burn. And a cut I got when my bootie was ripped off by the current looks kind of infected.
I won't be making a habit of swimming in that nastiness.
