Recommend a Cheap Floor Standing Bike Pump?
I'm looking to buy a non-expensive floor bike pump for both schraeder and presta valves. I am a ultracasual MTB rider. Mostly looking to take care of the family bikes.
Any recommendations? Brands?
To give you some context, my MTB is old Nishiki Alien that I bought off a neighbor for $20.
I'd like not to spend more than 2x for a pump than I spent on my bike.
I saw one at REI for about $15 but reviews said it was a POS so I thought I'd look for alternatives from the collective. Rather spend more for something I won't
everytime I use it.
Thanks.Last edited by bobski; 09-11-2008 at 12:15 PM. Reason: add

My first pump was a Schwinn floor pump- probably lasted close to 20 years with just a few times replacing the inside plunger etc. until it had the gage break and not read accurately any more.
I now own a Joe Blow- it was at a TJMaxx or the like from a close-out deal. The head broke on it within a short time but I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new one at no charge and the new one was redesigned so they must have had issues with the original. Has been working for probably like 3 years now without issues.

go to your local performance bike, they always have sales and cheap ones. I have had one from there for the last few years and it works fine, and gets used frequently. I had one issue and brought it in and they just gave me a new one.

Bite the bullet and get the Joe Blow...$35 may be more than you want to pay but you'll probably still have it when the $20 bike is long gone...

joe blow works alright. Somehow managed to strip the bolts holding cylander to baseplate when it was rattling around in the trunk. REI replaced it with a shiny new one and it's held up ever since.
I never did get around to using that little plastic balloon-blowing-up attachment before it was lost, which I regret.

Bought this pump from the local Performance Bike the other day, super happy with it. Very very nice pump.

Thanks a lot folks. I will chase down a good pump from these leads (as the actress said to the Bishop).
Hey, I may make my first purchase off chainlove! That's Mr. JONG to you, punk!

Another chime in for Topeak Joe Blow.
I paid my rent selling those.
Great working-man's pump.

I am happy with the Specialized Air Tool Comp. It cost $40, has a large gauge with max pressure of 160 and fits both types of valves.

personally unless your going to spring for a nice pump with metal head and tube I don't see much difference between the cheaper floor pumps and the slightly more expensive ones. yeah pressure gage might not be the most accurate but for most purposes i don't think it matters.

Got the Blackburn air tower 4 at REI cheap a few weeks back - sale may be over by now, but seems like a very solid pump, much better than my old Serfas.
