If Obama is so smart, why won't he accept McCain's invitation to have town hall format debates?

Could it be that he has a hard time stringing coherent thoughts together, without notes?

My guess would be Obama knows that he'd own McCain in a regular debate format. Why should he opt for a venue that makes McCain feel more comfortable?

He has to do the regular format.

The left wants us to believe that Obama is "wicked smart." If that is true, he would own McCain in any format.

I think he will do at least one in the long run, just wants McCain to stop chickening out about formal debates, which he (McCain) is awful in. Town Hall style chats also aren't very informative, but they're great for someone who is gunning for the "aw shucks" vote. This is the format that Bush did well in, convincing the sheep that he was a Beer drinking Texan normal guy rather than a NE Blueblood. In a moderated debate the candidates actually have to talk about issues, the one thing McCain, with the last 8 years on his shoulders partywise, cannot afford to do.

Easy there guy, nothing positive comes out of calling middle-Americans or "town-hallers" yokels or anything of that nature. It's that attitude that is hurting my campaign among these destitute simpletons.

Crud, I'll meet John where it suits me best to do so. My producers, directors, PR agents, and handlers think that I'll come off looking best in a formal debate, shot from slightly below so as to accentuate my intellectual stature. I look best when I speak in these formats, you look best here in a backwoods cyberroom. To each his own.
