Conservative political sacred cows?
Why is that the religious right puts so much importance on things like gun rights and overturning Roe vs Wade? Really, are these things that impact those voters' lives on a daily basis. What percentage of the population do these issues really impact on a daily basis as opposed to government spending and its associated impacts.
I don't understand it. Focusing on such issues is being very parochial. Do the conservatives even care about larger issues like the economy, foreign policy, etc?
I guess narrowing the scope of issues down to something very objective makes an us vs. them debate rather easy.Last edited by tarkman1; 09-03-2008 at 11:52 AM.

Breeding hysteria over issues like that obscures the more fundamental and critical issues. It's Machiavelli.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the GOP believes that the average American really has no clue about foreign policies or domestic policies unless they are directly affected.
And even then most people have no clue - as proven by the support among the non-rich for a flat tax."Active management in bear markets tends to outperform. Unfortunately, investors are not as elated with relative returns when they are negative. But it does support the argument that active management adds value." -- independent fund analyst Peter Loach

And maybe if you completely obliterated a woman's right to choose we'd have a higher birth rate and/or more incidences of women getting abortions in alleyways (so to speak) which would put more pressure on our healthcare and various social programs?
But yeah, it's a scare tactic to keep people from concentrating on things like the economy.Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

The irony of the conservative right's social agenda is that it results in MORE government intervention.

Wow, you guys are, like, really smart and junk. You use words like "parochial" and "Machiavelli". It's like you know all this stuff and junk about all kinds of things and stuff and when you talk about all the things and junk that you know about and stuff, it's just really neat and junk. Just sayin' and stuff.
(BTW, you mean "Machiavellian" - not "Machiavelli". That makes no sense.)

Listen - I'll make this so simple even some mental defective like you can understand it: You're an idiot. 9,284 posts. That's fucking disgusting. You are a pointless and ultimately irrelevant little man-boy. Your opinions, such as they are, appear to be based upon something you read about ten minutes ago. You were born to be kicked around by those that aren't too busy manipulating you.

Great, because I'd just as soon be thought of as an idiot and as defective. Yup, yessiree that's the case. I am pointless and beyond irrelevant and I have no capacity to remember anything from 10 minutes ago.
Odd that the word 'manipulation' should surface in your rant. And some proto gnostic sooth p00ting regarding what I was born to be. Whoop-dee-doo, bitch.
Anyway, I'm right about Tarks' question and you're just having a pretty pathetic petulant frenzy about it, so suck on it sweet cheeks.Merde De Glace

Ummmm... no you're not. But you're not worth the time it would take it to explain it to you - even if I thought you were capable of understanding.
Btw: People don't "have" frenzies; people "go into" frenzies. I'll use it in a sentence for you: "You and the rest of the Angry Left went into a frenzy eight years ago and I've been taunting you ever since." See? Atta boy! Now wipe that slobber off your chin - you're making me sick.

Isn't it dumb how some people that disagree don't actually have the sack to try to explain their position and instead resport to personal attacks right off the bat? The best part about it is that it;s so completely obvious how weak their presumed position is.
Now you're treading into linguistic domains in which you have no business. The use is perfectly acceptable English, bitch.

09-03-2008, 01:10 PM #17You're dumber than I tell people. FWIW, I've tried "talking" to people like you;it's just a waste of time. You're angry because you've been ignored and marginalized by the people that matter. You'll always be angry and you've no interest in discussing anything. The World is a puzzling place for you so, like the ancients, you make up up dragons, spirits and other fantastic scenarios to fill in the all of the cavernous voids in your knowledge. It's just easier that way.Isn't it dumb how some people that disagree don't actually have the sack to try to explain their position and instead resport to personal attacks right off the bat? No it's not. Maybe on the internets where you spend all of your days. Nowhere else. Now you're treading into linguistic domains in which you have no business. The use is perfectly acceptable English, bitch.

Really? Intersting position. Perhaps you could explain why. Then again, you might be right, I probably am even dumber than that. Indescribably dumb.
You have? My I had no idea there were so many of me.FWIW, I've tried "talking" to people like you;it's just a waste of time.
Gosh how perceptive. Are you watching me through my TV? I'm so horribly ignored, so marginalized, I'm just dying to take a feeble stab at some bitter hope of consequence. You're angry because you've been ignored and marginalized by the people that matter.
Ah HA! That's it! I'm angry. Yes, yes, it's becoming all so clear to me now. Do tell more. But remember, I'm too dumb to be interested. It's beyond me, so don't contradict yourself. Careful! You'll always be angry and you've no interest in discussing anything.
Well golly gosh gee boyoh boy, you've got my number. I'm so angry. Yes, that's it, I'm so angry I can't begin to articulate my point of view. And I must be making up dragons, spirits and other scenarios (thanks for filling that in btw, I didn't know that dragons and spirits were scenarios. I'll make a note of it..thanks..).The World is a puzzling place for you so, like the ancients, you make up up dragons, spirits and other fantastic scenarios to fill in the all of the cavernous voids in your knowledge. I know nothing of the world, coddled and swaddled as I've been, nursed by the nanny state and welfare checks, supping at the public trough, gliding glibly through life without a care or concern or even the most teensy capability of making sense of any of it. I see the wordl spinning around me through an unbreakable veil, shrouded and detached.Merde De Glace

Just for your information (commonly abbreviated to FYI)
1. the position of pedantic pseudo-intellectual asshole was filled long ago by Witherspoon, and I don't think he's willing to share.
2. Your posts indicate you are under-qualified for the position
3. You have absolutely no idea what Buster's deal is.

Cliff, you just go putting the foot in the mouth all the time, don't you?
The decision to support something you disagree with is by no means an indication of the individual's ownership of a "clue".
I am not rich. I am well informed. I would support a flat tax. So there you have it.
