you need two whole days.
Day 1 rent all 3 Lord of the rings movies.
sick movie making of a great story.
day 2 rent the first 4 starwars movies.
great film making & needed to be culturally literate in US society.

make it two, I saw the originial star wars, didnt know what that new hope next to it was.
Im just not a big fan of gnomes and stuff, so the desire to see the lord of the rings movies hasnt been too high.

Since ticket prices keep rising due to inflation, grosses are really a useless way to measure a film's popularity.
I'd be more interested in number of tickets sold (especially vs available moviegoers). Wonder what the most popular film would be by that criteria?
Edit to add the answer: Gone With The Wind wins handily.

Good runs when you get them.

I've seen 76/100. Jeez, I've seen a lot of movies. The ones that I missed seemed to be Harry Potter movies, bad sequels (Jurassic Park II and III) and a few other randoms...

Christ I've seen all of them except, well , Passion of the Christ.
Agreed on ticket sales, lots of those films are grossly overstated I would think due to aftermarket sales, videos and such, for the toon ones.
The link TomK put up is IMO a much more suitable list, and definitely a better list of films.Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

I've seen 58/100. While most were probably rented, it's still scarry to think I've spent that much time in a dank, dark room. Still, that ain't close to 99/100!

93/100 and its not like i really go to movies all that much but they are such popular movies, many of them i didnt see till they were on TV or just happend to go to someones house when they were watching them, i go to the actual movies only a hand full of times a year, and ill rent movies 2 or 3 times a month maybe.

I'm not sure that is the most accurate way to measure a films popularity unless you can take video rentals and purchases into account as well.

I've not seen:
Passion of the Christ
Harry Potters (I saw the first one but that was it)
Cast Away
MI2
Signs
Rush Hour 2
Pearl Harbor
Day after Tomorrow (not a chance in hell...)
Liar Liar
Apollo 13
Tarzan
Big Daddy (though I know I've seen bits and pieces on video)
We rarely see stuff in theaters, but I guess we rent plenty of videos..."Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow, what a Ride!"

77 out of 100 that I've seen. I'm a movie addict, I admit it. Most of the stuff out there is junk, but for some reason I still fork over my hard earned money for a little bit of escapism....
Skip Jurassic Park 19 and go rent City of Gods if you haven't yet......good stuff.“Within this furnace of fear, my passion for life burns fiercely. I have consumed all evil. I have overcome my doubt. I am the fire.”
