Treasure Lakes. Sierra Nevada, Ca. gold strike TR
Last weekend a friend and I went backpacking, fishing and peak bagging in the Little Lakes Valley. We left the Mosquito Flat trailhead Friday afternoon and quickly left the trail just after Long Lake.
This talus field usually deters most people from going any further but with goldens on the mind we pushed right up it.
At the top it opens up the High Sierra backcountry.
We set up camp, opened a beer and strung up the flyrods
The first gold strike.
Colorful little bastards.
Not a bad size Golden for 11175'
Saturday morning we got up early to wet a line before hiking to Pyramid Peak. I only caught one.
On the way to Pyramid Peak.
Once you get around the lake the talus hopping began
Scrambling up the choss pile on the way to Dade Lake.
Dade Lake and Bear Creek Spire
Crystal Clear Dade Lake on the way to Pyramid Peak's summit.
A vein of quartz and the not so solid slope of Pyramid.
Almost there
On the ridge to the top
The summit of Pyramid Peak 12840'
The Little Lakes Valley
Looking south towards Mt. Tom and Mt. Humphries
The long slog back to camp.
Home sweet home and the fish hitting the surface.
The winds picked up and the fish stopped hitting but it was still good.
It calmed down later in the evening but the fishing never picked up.
Sunrise Sunday morning. There is a reason the Sierra is called the Range of Light. Bear Creek Spire.
It didn't suck waking up and fishing here.

A Sunday morning Golden
and a few Brookies
The water so clear you picked your fish and dropped a fly in front of them.
Great trip and I finally was able get into some elusive Golden Trout.

HOLY AWESOME! That was one of the coolest TRs I've seen all summer. Your campsite is a legit wet dream. Amazing.
