Good rides in Utah with a dog

So I have never taken my dog riding with me, I want to take him out but need a secluded ride that I won't really see anyone on to test out his skills on the trail. I am probably going to bring him down to Price to do some riding at some point. But is there anything closer to SLC that I should be aware of? I thought the Uintas might work, but the ride we went on included riding through herds of 100's of sheep, not sure how he would react. Plus there are huge herding dogs that might eat him if he got too close to the livestock.

Yeah, watch out for those herding dogs. The ones around Montana are actually trained to kill any other dogs that come close to the sheep.

I just took my doggy up corner canyon road last week for his first 'mtn' bike ride ever. Worked out pretty well.

I do a lot of riding with my pooch in Round Valley up in Park City. There are a lot of loop options so you can tailor your ride to the condition your friend is in. Also, not too many other trail user's to worry about. The few people you do run into usually have their own dog with them or are dog friendly.

PCMR's good if your dog's up for the mileage. Stretches of sun up Thaynes and across MMT, but almost all shaded below MMT. Spiro to Shadow Lake down to MMT to John's was a pretty full day for my dog.

Generally, If you ride at the crack of dawn you don't have to worry about people, anywhere. Plus, its a lot cooler for the pup. I take my dog for 10-20 miles everyday and there is a huge difference between 60 and 80 degrees.

Start him out short and slow and take water for him if there isn't any on the trails.

...Also keep an eye on the paws. The desert sand / rock can tear em up real fast at speed.

2nded. Take the pooch on a few smaller rides/walks to toughen up those pads.
This is the worst pain EVER!

Lambert might be a good option. There's some small loops you can use to test him out and the couple of times I've been there during the week I haven't seen anyone else around.
