By no means b/c I couldn't handle them. They just sucked, way too much sidecut and not enough go juice. Plus I broke em, I'm totally not a ski breaker.

Maybe you just needed better wax

wax? WTF does that have to do with the performance of a ski?

Regardless of the skis Rossignol makes, what about boots and bindings and the affiliates? Does this mean Dynastar, Look and Lange would also be toast? Even still some people may not care about this, like those who like salomon for example, but it would still be a huge loss for the industry.

i saw quiksilver present at a conference in NYC last week and they seemed pretty confident that they would have a buyer for Rossi soon(but they could have been talking out their asses) it won't die- hopefully they get a new design team and can compete better.
sounds like they may sell it back to the original owners in europe and Rossi's kill it in Europe. Seems like every frenchy and his brother are on some strange looking mid-fat rossi ski that I've never seen before. p.s. i have a pair of squads that i can barely handle

Yep, you're right- no one in Colorado or Utah is still skiing.

Apparently you haven't checked the front page trip reports lately.

speaking of WA, does anybody know how this effects Lib-Tech?

I believe they are part of the Quicksilver deal, no?

Or is it just Rossi that they're unloading and maintaining the other wintersports companies they own (i.e. Roxy, etc)?

I agree that Rossignol is an iconic brand; however, in the absence of a good product, that alone will not prevent their demise.

Would I care if Chevy died? I don't think I've lost a night's sleep since Oldsmobile and Plymouth went away. Weren't they iconic brands in their own right?

quiksilver never figured out the whole one season sport retail thing and as they are a publically traded company stock value is everything (pretty interesting theory for a company that promotes itself as hardcore action sport based)
this new development is just the precursor to the sale of winter group (i'm guessing the Rossi part not Lib) so that Quik can start reporting some share growth and get the shareholders off their back...

And yet Salomon's done just find making shitty, average skis. Most skiers are average. Go figure.
I learned to ski standing between my Dad's teal 200cm 4SK's. Staring at the rooster. Yeah it's a big icon, and you should know better than to not care, pech, or maybe you don't because you've only been involved with skiing for 4 years. Not that you're not still Mayor of Tech Talk.

Park City, UT - Board sports company Quiksilver, Inc. will sell its Park City-based Rossignol brand of ski hardgoods and softgoods, the company announced in its second quarter financial statement last week. The sale will include the Rossignol, Dynastar, Lange, Look and Kerma brands of ski equipment and apparel, all of which are operated under the Quiksilver's Rossignol Group business unit.

    ......

Among winter sports brands, Quiksilver also maintains the Quiksilver, Roxy, DC and other apparel brand businesses. The company will continue to make snowboarding equipment under its DC, Roxy, Lib Technologies, Gnu and Bent Metal labels.

    Brands change hands.
    Especially brands that have equity.
The ski industry has seen it's share of this.
Rossignol has a long history, a lot of brand recongnition.
If QuickSilver chooses to divest, the brand will be sold off to the highest bidder.

Rossignol makes good skis that suit a wide array of skier abilities. They're not what I ski on, but I would before a number of other skis.

How can people be indifferent about the uncertain future of one of the oldest players in the game? Rossignol was giving people products to get faceshots on long before anyone ever heard of Movement, Praxxis, Liberty, Bluehouse, etc. and they'll be providing those same types of products long after those companies are gone. Promise.

Besides, who can debate they make the very best bindings in the world?

I'd miss 'em, and I'm somewhat new to skiing

My first bought ski's (Dec '01) were discount Rossi CUT ski's. They worked. I'm still doing it, ain't I?
My first Rossi boots, though...now I know a bit more, were sucky. But that was mostly down to the (alleged) boot-fitter Boo! NOR-ski

I skied some first-season B-squads this season, and liked them. Those, and some 164BRO's, were the first stiff ski's I'd tried. It wasn't in pow, though. Just dust on crust

Pechelman, if you have anything to do with the 164 (swiss made) BRO's, then cheers!
