general use i like my titanium benchmade balisong with the clip point blade ive sharpened 50% on the top
its really very practical and super fast to draw with a horizontally placed belt sheath
faster than an automatic knife or spring assisted blade for me...
its also fun to flip around

like dis one but in a different color

multitool, while I own and have used a standard leatherman supertool for over 10 years, and i love it, im a big fan of the victorinox SwissTools. when my leatherman dies, im getting one of those. The overall feel of these Swisstools in comparison to anything made by leatherman, gerber, or SOG is lightyears ahead. More solid locking, no play between handles and pliers, sturdy knives and tools (ive seen a ton of broken blades\drivers on waves and gerbers...a ton), is overall much more well thought out, and the finish as well is much better. The place the swisstool lacks is in ergo as the handles are very large and square, but most of the time im wearing gloves of some sort anyway when im using it, so its not a big deal to me.

generally, for camping or bc skiing, i only carry the leatherman for a "knife"
though when I ski, i do have a benchmade rescue hook on my hip belt at all times.

i have some other favorite knives too though
my chris reeve MKVI has been a favorite for a long time, though not very practical for much of anything. but its sweet.

more practical is my fallkniven F1
great utility around the house\garage type knife though sometimes hard to get into tight areas cause the blade is so damned thick and tall.

if i had to pick only 1, it would be a multitool cause of the shear utility of it
if i had to pick only 1 knife, thus far it would be my model 42 balisong

i also have this wharncliffe style knife i handmade, heat treated, tempered, and sharpened that i like a lot. Made it from an old file. been meaning to make or find a sheath for it. its burly, though just about 3" long for the blade and 6OAL IIRC.

I have had one of these for 5 years and it is fantastic. Probably the single best thing about it is that you don't have to open it up to access any of the tools like leathermen's. Once you have used one of these, you'll realize what a PITA having all your blades facing the wrong direction was (though that's probably contributing to the clunky square feeling).

When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back. GET MAD! I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN LEMONS! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?! DEMAND TO SEE LIFE'S MANAGER! Make life RUE the day it thought it could give YOU LEMONS! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! I'M THE MAN WHO'S GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! WITH THE LEMONS! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that's gonna BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!

    Pocket
    CRKT Van Hoy Snaplock

    Multi
Leatherman wave. Had it for six or so years no complaints, sharp and durable. Better in hand than the Gerber IMO, have a Gerber at work and it stays in the drawer at work.

Wish I would have grabbed an M16, I have had a CRKT Kiss knife for a long while also, they don't make the one I have anymore but similar to the Peck, with a different tip.

Does anyone make a lightweight Multi?

Not all Titanium, but maybe just the handles, pliers and some tools, with steel for blades, etc. ?

a gift from my friends for organizing our NZ ski trip:

6 stitches from just pulling it out of the sheath beware the slight notch in the sheath where your pinkie fits in naturally yet the blade passes through and you'll be all set. this plus my leatherman is all that I ever need.

I have a Swiss Army knife and a Leatherman, but Gerber's are really nice.

I like your style sir. I have that same CRKT, and had a very similar SOG multi tool until I left it by the side of the road a few days ago. Got them both off of SAC.

I also have one of these.

I use it as a hammer or hatchet a lot more than I use it as a knife.

i had one of these for a couple years

then the springy peice that snaps it together and keeps it closed broke one day rendering it pretty useless. functionality was OK, but nothing id be too excited over.

The only good part i see about one of these is that it might be pretty easy to get through security at an airport.

and ive always had a soft spot for a nice laguiole knife, philippeR
bought a dedicated corkscrew recently from them. its sooo nice.
on a similar style front, but at a much much lower pricepoint, I really love my Opinel too. One of the best blades Ive found on any knife for getting razor sharp and slicing things.

Definately the most beautiful wine tools made. How does one know you are getting a genuine Laguiole? I know some are made outside of the real city with the Laguiole name.

Any chance I could get you to pick me up one and ship it to the US?

I own a few CRKTs but am not super pleased with the blades.

My far and away favorite is a really cheap ruko POS plastic grip folding with a single beveled edge. Thing stays damn sharp all the time (never sharpened in 7 years of daily carry). Definitely has a couple of knicks in the blade though.

almost never use a multitool, hate the fucking things although they are handy for when the dog gets tangled with a porky.
