    More Ebay shenanigans - help?

Haven't been on the board in a while but I need some advice.

I don't have much experience selling on Ebay. I had an auction that just ended this morning (~10:30 EST) for some tix to Bonnaroo. The winning bid was for $310 and the buyer has no feedback.

Well since the end of the auction, I have not been contacted by the buyer. No Paypal, email, whatever. I've sent the invoice and an email. I just called and left a message on their answeing machine.

I wouldn't freak out except the concert is THIS weekend and if the tix don't ship overnight tomorrow, no one will get them in time...

So what to do? Wait? Try to poach other buyers? I can't relist them, shortest auction period is 3 days. The concert is sold out so I know there is prolly some last minute demand. I'm not looking to make any $ beyond ticket price, it's just that two of us broke-ass grad students paid $180 each and now we can't go (such a sob story...). www.bonnaroo.com

Any advice and experience is appreciated.

    Thanks
    K

You can put them back up as a buy it now option only. That way the auction will end as soon as someone buys them for your said price.

I would put them back up right away given the concert is this weekend and they have to be shipped tomorrow.

It may be that they haven't checked their email or haven't been home or whatever, but it would suck for you to have those tickets and have nothing to do with them. The worst that could happen, you put it back up with buy it now, someone else buys them, you get negative feedback from the original winner, at least you have your $300.....okay, okay, I guess the worst is they wouldn't resell and you would be stuck with them, but sounds like they probably would.

Unless your buyer is a complete imbecile, he/she knows the concert is this weekend and that they need to pay-up.

While you're being patient . . . . cover your bases and send a note to the buyer(s) with the next highest bid; explain to them that you haven't heard from the winning bidder and tell them the tickets are their's if you don't hear from the winning bidder within a specified timeframe.

The Buy-It-Now suggestion is also worth considering.

    Good luck

Yep, its 0 or none... I don't have enough feedback myself to do the "buy it now" option so I'm trying get in touch with some friends who can.

And I'm the seller, it's the buyer that isn't contacting me.

We get this all the time on our site. People bid and/or buy but don't follow through. There's an invoicing option on ebay that allows you to notify them. But a lot of people just don't think clearly when they buy. My policy is to only recognize Paypal payments, not winning bids.

Because of the short time you have to deal with you might also think about using the "second chance offer" to the 2nd bidder. You offer them the tix at their highest bid for 24 hours. I've been in the situtaion before and it works well, and you'll make that bidder happy if they're still interested...

I'm with Ski dawg. There is a mechanism on ebay to go to the next highest bidder. I have done similar before and it worked well. Key is to contact the other bidder right away and tell them the story and let him know he MAY get the tickets after all. You should give the first bidder some sort of time line like end of today. In future from time sensitive stuff you should add in your payment area that payment MUST be received in 24 hours or some such.

Oh we've gone a full circle now. Original bidder hadn't contacted me by 12 so re-listed them as Buy it Now for $250 (bigger loss, but some $ is better than none). Chick buys them in 2 seconds... Now she hasn't contacted us, we are giving her until this afternoon. To top it off, original buyer emails and calls me this morning in tears. So yeah, waiting game, but someone will get the freaking tix. This is fun! Learned some lessons though.

    Thanks for all the advice.

A buyer has 3 days to reply,BUT in your case that's not an option. Sell them to the next highest bidder. There is a pay immediately option. Also Ebay has a chat line for the lastest info and scams. As you can see Ebay has potholes, good luck.

It's a good idea to state the the time period in which seller MUST contact buyer (24 hours, etc)

Skiergirl, you live in Tennessee? Where do you go to grad school?

No TN, I was going to make the drive down. I'm an inmate at ND. Wish I lived in TN, they have mountains there.

Which field? ND has some nice chemistry going on. Do you know David Hyde from Biology?

I would probably be geochem/geomicro. I've heard of David Hyde but don't know him. My only experience with the chemistry dept. may be sitting in on P-chem next year. Though it will be my last year so we'll see how long that lasts.

I sat in on a geothermal-nuclear war class once, but all they did was play chess. It sucked.
