TR: Good ol' Canyon Creek (Orygun)

Just a little afternoon delight to get away from the Thursday grind...THE Canyon Creek.

    Yup, we're going kayaking.

The weather appeared to be ominous.

Perfect for kayaking, so we continued on down the road.

    Until we got to here.

Then we got out and looked upstream.

    Then we looked downstream.

Looked like a nice healthy flow, so we drove to the put-in.

We eventually got to a slight bump in the road.

Which, upon inspection, was surely going to impede upstream progress.

That house-sized boulder has turned the best rapid on the run into... "a big rock".

So we walked a little further, maybe we could walk to the put-in.

"Day of Judgement" has quite the new character to it.

We decided that we were on a schedule, so we bagged this part of the run...

and decided to put in down there, instead. So much for the class V. We'll take what we can get.

It sure looked pretty awesome down that way.

We looked at the big rock, again. "This is surely going to impede downstream progress."

So we walked back for the downhill put-in trail slog. The big rock used to fit in that cliff face below the fencing.

TR: Good ol' Canyon Creek, OR (continued)...

    Oh yesh, the kayaking part...

This fella is a slut for the camera.

This guy is not a terra-ist,

but the "Osprey" does shiver when he makes his moves. Yowza!

    Sluttin'...

and heading for the bird hole.

    Through the bird hole, s l o w l y . . . . .

Offering a helping hand of Spectra...

I don't need no stinkin' hand of Spectra!

Can you find the boater in the picture?

All of a sudden, we have to figure out how to get these pesky drytops off.

"That wasn't so bad." "Now, you guys try it." "Yeah right, you can't get that off..."

On they way back, a spy satellite found "The Falcon" headed the wrong way from sweet home.

Yeah, yeah - we got it. It was dressed in waterproof/breathable and looked like one hell of a good time.

Sponsored by...a bunch of stinky-ass gear and colorful paddle blades.

    'Tis all.

    Thanks, good shots.

I always like to see the off river pictures too because sometimes thats the best part of the trip.

Now I'm going to cry because we have no water. Green off this weekend, no natural, the only game in town is the artificial park....just not feeling playboating in shallow holes with a concrete bottom.

Yep, what Rootskier said. We have, ummm...some water out here. Our backyard jaunt, the Canyon Creek in this TR, has been flowing strong for weeks. The LWS is at 3.7 and rising, and it is already June. Gonna be a good runoff year. The teacup diagram is really a nice graphic to show just how much is flowing right now: Canyon Cr. is in the South Santiam drainage on the map.

Forget the coffee, here is the teacup diagram.

Wish I had more action shots from yesterday, 'cuz that creek is a gem, upstream and downstream of the cliff face that is now in the streambed. There are some great 3-4 rapids down there, in the canyon and all.

And people complain that the Jenkinsburg road is too rocky! Great TR, glad to see that not even tectonic shifting can put the kibosh on the fun!
