Thread: Isac Assimov? (or is it Issac Asimov?)

I burned through "The Foundation" series in about a week. Some of my favorite reads ever... but I never explored any of his other works. Last night I saw a commercial for a new movie out in July with Wil Smith starring entitled "I, Robot".

Is that not an Assimov book? Anybody read that series and feel like posting your two cents?

Remember reading this a long time ago, and looked it up on line, sounds cool.
The director is the same guy who did Dark City, which I really liked.

Asimov novels are pretty great, IMO, plenty of movies left in lots of his titles. I don't know if it was in a series, or not, but it's a short. Robots of dawn? I think I read to, but can't really remember the background on that one.

Philip K. Dick is another sci fi author worth checking out. He wrote the book that inspired the movie Blade Runner.

"The Foundation Trilogy" is cool, but "I, Robot" is Asimov's strongest sci-fi work, imo. Read and enjoy.

Mr. Dick's short stories have a nice "what the F. is going on?" quality to them that hollywood likes.

To bad the guy died dirt poor. He was woefully undervalues during his lifetime.



The Will Smith "I Robot" doesn't look to be very faithfull to the spirit of Asimov's stories. I think it may end up a "cop movie" based on the trailers I've seen but I'll go anyway.

For an interesting read, try the screenplay for I Robot that Harlan Ellison wrote. When I first heard of the movie I thought this was going to be the basis of the script, but no.

Another Asimov read that's fun is the" Black Widowers" collections which are a bunch of sci-fi detective short stories, none of which cheat. (All the resolutions obey the laws of science, no "magic" tech allowed).
