I know why we have tits.

on the toenail front--I have never had a bad one untill now.

I am going to notch it, but it hurts so bad to mess with the nail, it has to wait. Digging it out is the WORST pain. Hydrogen peroxide is a good additive, it seems to mess with the skin so it stops bleading.

I have had a number of ingrown toenails, and until last Nov, I always dug them out myself. However, I got an ingrown nail on my right big toe in Jan '02. It wasn't too bad, so I kept picking at it and trying to dig out the ingrown part. Unfortunately, nothing I did seemed to work. In Aug '02, part of the nail started to grow out the side of my toe. I never actually saw the nail, but a new infected spot appeared there. Then in Sept '02 the other side of the nail became ingrown as well. I kept picking at both sides, trying to dig it out, but to no avail. Finally in early Nov, I tried putting on my boots, and realized that I needed to get something done if I wanted to ski.

Up to this point I had always avoided going to the doctor for ingrown nails, because I figured that anything they did would probably cause more pain than just leaving the nail there. However, the whole process was relatively painless. The painkiller shot was kind of bad (but not anywhere near as bad as what I was doing to myself), but after that, I didn't feel a thing. The best part though was that she killed the root of the nail at the edges where it was causing the ingrown nails. Now I never have to worry about an ingrown nail on that toe. The most amazing part was the complete lack of pain after the painkiller wore off. I was expecting a long painful recovery, but it was just a little bit sore for the first day (less so than when it was ingrown).

    So, in summary:

    GO TO A DOCTOR

(I have one to recomend in Redondo Beach, not that it will do you any good.)

    AntiSoCalSkier and Kumquat-

Thanks for the info/advice. I did not realize that my toenail could be infected. I was describing what I was going throgh last night in my previous post. It is not nearly as painful today. Yesterday and the day before it hurt to walk, today it is kinda a nag. Red and swollen. but I can push on the nail and it dosent hurt. It kinda itches if anything.

If it is not WAY better tomarow, I will go to the doc, play it safe. I should anyway. I have insurance.

Very good link KQ! thanks again.

Oh, if it's just red and swollen, that's nothing. I assumed you had a real ingrown nail. When my toenails get ingrown, there's usually lot's of white stuff oozing out. I should probably post a picture of my old ingrown nail (the one from the story).
