Thread: Problem with Dynafit Vertical ST

In dense deep snow the front toe lever on my Dynafit Vertical ST bindings can get moved upward from ski(release) mode to lower levels of tour(non release) mode. Has anybody else experienced this? Any solutions? I can only envision a small v shaped diverter like the anti-avalanche walls that protect buildings.

try riding the backseat toe keep those beautiful toepieces out of the dirty snow...

I believe dynafit extended the lever arm for the FT/ST's for convenience. I don't have any personal experience with them. For reference, I almost always ride with my toes locked, unless I'm spinning or flipping, but if you don't want them to lock, a stronger actuation spring might help, the one that attaches to the "unanchored" pin that moves to keep that lever arm up out of the the way when you're not locked in.

I'm on FT's and haven't had that problem. I can't picture how that'd happen? Even in "release-mode" the toe piece is still angled slightly up and if you're moving forward it should only push if farther up if anything.

That is exactly what I am saying. The snow seems to push the lever farther up which takes the binding out of safety release mode into non-releasing climbing mode. I know that many people ski with the binding in non-release mode. For me the whole point of having releasing safety bindings is for the skis to come off before an injury occurs. I know there are circumstances where a pre-release can be more dangerous than the ski not releasing, but with modern bindings, good judgement and a measure of finesse, prereleases are very rare. Perhaps, a spiral tib-fib at the age of 14 from a binding that didn't release has made me paranoid for life.

OK, I don't post on this forum much but I have a pair of ST bindings as well as some TLT's and have found a interesting glitch with my ST bindings. I was traversing on some fairly steep and slippery snow that was a little slabby with a rock hard base. Twice I lost traction and a ski broke loose, as it did, my boot toe would hit the toe lever and disengage the toe and spit me out of the ski. So, I think the extended toe lever on the ST is a problem that I never had with my TLT's.
