    GoPro Helmet Hero Helmet Cam

...so I just received mine today and started to play around with it. While we have no trails open, I slapped on the "RidePro" accessory which allows for a handlebar mount on my bike.

Initial thoughts: The camera, itself, is about 1" by 2" by 1/2". When out of its protective case, it is cheapish feeling---like a kid's spy camera or something. But the case in which it sits and mounts to accessories feels thick and bomber. According to GoPro, it's waterproof to 100', so that's nice. Anyhow, so far I am pleasantly suprised at the quality of the video and the ease of use.

Here's a 100' tour of my garage and street using the camera. Unfortunately, youtube sucks balls and butchers the quality so I'm not sure how much good this will do you. But the vid, itself, is better than this:

    edit: Turn your sound down.

The accessories are great....easy to use and appear pretty bomber. Hopefully I'll take this little sucka down to Moab soon and get some real testing done. I'll post here when I do.

Overall, no complaints for a sub $200 helmet cam!

I played with that thing at OR and Twoplanker ended up getting one.
The only shortcoming is the lack of a screen to review, according to him.
We don't make the snow. We just make it more enjoyable.

    Question

is this stand alone, or do you need to connect it to a video camera?
    Drive slow, homie.

No video camera needed - it is a complete camera. Here's my first attempt at using it:

A couple of the shots in this video are from another camera.

The problems I had with it are:

    1) With no screen, it's hard to know if it's pointed in the right direction. Lots of video of my skis as a result.

    2) In cold temps (<40) the batteries will freeze up quickly. I've solved this by riding with it in my jacket on the lift.

Overall, not too bad but not too great either. Pretty resilient on the hucks. I still need to play with it some more (that's what she said, heh).

I have a chance to score one of these, any further comments?
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was
