Fernie, Kicking horse, (lake loise? Whitefish, red? )

Thinking about a 5 day long trip in that area? Never been around there. I'm stupid. Anybody have any experance around there that they want to share? Somthing? Anything? Anybody go out that way after the summit? Snowpack between christmass and New years? We are going to be staying in a pop-up camper so no hotels and shit.

Last time I checked The Northern, The Palace , and 'Stube all take greenbacks.

The best ski area is the one where the snow is at. You've got a ridiculous amount of choices is the northern Montana/ Interior BC zone.

    Big
    Red
    Fernie
    Castle
    KH
    Whitewater
    Turner
    etc

Just git in the truck and go

    1) Drive to Rossland. Ski Red for a couple of days if the snow is good. It's a great mountain.
    2) From Rossland, drive to Nelson. Ski Whitewater and cat ops if $ allows.
    3) Survey snow conditions. Can either head down to Fernie and Castle or up to Kicking Horse, choose one with best snow.
    4)
    a) If Fernie and Castle, ski Fernie, then Castle, then drop down to Big Mountain, then over to Turner, then home.
    b) If Kicking Horse, ski there, then over to Lake Louise.

Either itinerary would make for an awesome week. Let the snow dictate.

All I have to say is Kicking Horse is fuckin' SICK!

Skiied there once two years ago. This was before they opened the new quad which added a ton sickening acerage.

It is a must ski, plus the strip bar in Golden is always entertaining, you can share a Kokanee and an eyefull with gap-toothed lumberjacks

Somehow I can't see DINMS's dad taking him to a strip bar, but the thought is entertaining.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

Considering all the kind things you've said about your mom (where ARE the pictures, anyhow?), it's a surprise your dad doesn't have his own extension at the local titty bar.

edit: I think taking your son to a titty bar is a GREAT growing/bonding experience for a father and son, and I highly recommend it. Your son will thank you fiddler. Hey, I'm still best friends with a couple of the guys that took me to my first legit one on my 18th!!!

    DINMS,
You might be better off between xmas and new years to stay away from Banff/LL. Snow in Dec is spotty and the Banff area resorts tend to get huge amounts of tourist traffic during the holidays and you find yourself either skiing icy manmade shit or doing alot of base repairs at night. Staying south (Red, Fernie, Castle) would be a better bet for smaller crowds and better snow. Of course, a big storm in Banff or warm weather south could change this, so stay flexible. Have a great time whatever you choose.
