(NSR) Backpacking CA North coast this coming weekend - suggestions?
I've decided to go backpacking with a friend of mine along California's North Coastal area somewhere (anything above S.F.), but I don't know of a good, long-ish, trail for a good 2 1/2 day trip. Nater - you suggested Lost Coast - have you been on a specific trail?
A couple things - I guess it doesn't have to be coastal, and if anyone has any other good suggestions for a 2 1/2 day trip going from Sacramento, bring it on! However, I'd like to go either East or North from Sacto. Also, reserving campsites at this late stage is tough...so if they can be avoided, that would be great. Thanks!
By the way, Pt. Reyes is full, so we're going elsewhere...in case anyone was going to suggest it.

Lost Coast
It can be done in 2.5 days, but you'll be pushing a little."if the city is visibly one of humankind's greatest achievements, its uncontrolled evolution also can lead to desecration of both nature and the human spirit."

It's not North, but I drove through Yosemite last weekend and things are pretty melted out - you could probably do a great trip from the valley and camp in the backcountry - permits, but not reservations, required.
Everything in moderation, including moderation . . .

Thanks Kellie, I'll be hitting the Eastern Sierra the following three weekends after this one, so I'm holding off on Yosemite for this trip. Good idea, though.
Nater - beautiful area. Tiff can't get off work early on Friday, so we're gonna do something a bit closer to home
Edit: Nater, we need to plan another desolation trip involving swimming - like the one you wanted to do last summer (was it aloha lakes?). Prob. later in the summer, though. All mangs welcome!Last edited by divegirl; 05-18-2004 at 05:39 PM.

Lost Coast. You don't have to do the entire thing, out and back is fun. I went in at the town of Petrolia. The entire area is very funky. The local liquor stores sell micro brews, Oly, organic produce, and buck shot!
