    Greatest songs ever written

I think I'll take all the suggestions and post them in a poll, then after the voting put the top 12, 15, 20 whatever will fit on a cd and upload the compilation for the collective on sendspace.

You get one vote. And I'm not talking about some obscure Wilco or Sunny Day Real Estate tune. I'm talking about legit real deal foundation stuff, so save your breath by trying to impress us all with your "I'm more indie/core/emo/diverse than you" B.S.

Nanuq is right. Won't get fooled again outdoes Baba O'Riley. and my favorite Who tunes are off of Quadrophenia anyway.

I'm going back to my original entry and submitting the unheralded Zeppelin masterpiece "When the Levee Breaks"

is this talking about just lyrics or lyrics and music?

Fuck it, I'll just go all around for Pink Floyd - Time

Though Stairway to Heaven, as overplayed as it may be, is still #1.

    Hotel California

Rock and Roll All Night (KISS)

    The Wall

this may be a little out of place, but it was kind of a iconic song - Against the Wind

i'd have to say, as overplayed as it is, pink floyd's "breathe". it is about as perfect as song can be. i still get shivers from the ending.

As dumb a it sounds, lately I have been into Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. Maybe it's because of the whole Deadliest Catch thing

    Yep it'll be by Marley.

Could easily pick out a dozen or so.

    But probably one of

    Jah live
    Concrete Jungle
    Ambush in the night
    Africa Unite
    Get up stand up
    Rat race

Right now, I'd probably choose Chant down Babylon

or perhaps Rebel music, 3 o'clock road block

For those of you who can't count to one, I'm going to go ahead and use whatever the first song listed in your rambling is for the poll.

    Friend of the Devil?

I dunno, but it's definitely become part of the country music canon.

I have the same problem. Plenty of Marley's songs to be considered for #1
