TR 05/15/04: Apres-Ski Super Secret Yosemite Waterslide Reconnoissance
Met up with Walter Sobchak at Mammoth for a day of spring turns. After the lifts shut down I decided to scout out the conditions at the Super Secret Waterslide.
Overview of the Basin

The Waterslide: when the water dies down a bit we slide down this on a closed cell foam pad into the pool below. One can really pic up some good speed through the speed trap zone right before the pool.

The window to hit this thing is very short. Go too early(like now) and the water is too cold and to strong. Go too late and there's not enough water to get you down.I like cows. Cow are cool.

Super Secret, huh? Would really, really like to know where that is. Maybe if I wait by the side of the 5, I'll see you go by, and tail you all the way to said Super Secret spot. I'm an expert at camouflage.

The 5 and I don't mix. But since you're an expert at camouflage then you should also be an expert at keeping classified information classified, right? This thing is pretty diffucult to find unless you know where it is. There is no trail, it's a total 45 min. cross country foray. Maybe we'll have to get an early summer mag/min waterslide mission set up. I'll update this when the conditons warrent. Who's in?

No fucking way! I "discovered" that a few years ago myself. That spot is the ultimate natural water park. Especially as when the water level is good for sliding, it has run over several miles of sun warmed granite which warms the water to a perfect temp.
Craziest thin is that cascade has been run in a kyack (I think it was in one of the Liquid Lifestyles movies)!"Great barbecue makes you want to slap your granny up the side of her head." - Southern Saying

Heaps of similar water slides all along the Tuolumne River, but most require a couple days of walking to reach. Also, you'll go faster if you do it naked.

That sorta looks like a super secret one that I went to ~ 10 years ago near Wawona... so super secret that I no longer know where it is. It's supposed to be good pretty much year round, as long as you could handle the water temps.

However, I would be entirely supportive of a trip any weekend following that."if the city is visibly one of humankind's greatest achievements, its uncontrolled evolution also can lead to desecration of both nature and the human spirit."

Sounds like I'm not the only one who's going to be in Mammoth that weekend (I'll be there the whole weekend, but will probably only ski Sat and Mon).
I'm assuming we'll do 10 at mid-chalet. Are there any other planned activities?
